What to Know

Critics Consensus

It's undeniably messy, but Savages finds Oliver Stone returning to dark, fearlessly lurid form.

Savages may come off choppy in the very beginning, but it does springboards to a really fantastical second half. Go to Full Review

An unabashedly lurid sun-and-surf ménage-à-trois cum drug-running caper, with touches of Jacobean tragedy for good measure. Go to Full Review

The film would have been so much more interesting if the two men had been identical twins played by the same actor-like Jeremy Irons in David Cronenberg's Dead Ringers. Go to Full Review

Viewer agony begins right near the start, as O describes her boffing sessions with the battle-scarred Chon: “I had orgasms; he had ‘wargasms.'” Yow. Haven’t Writers Guild of America memberships been revoked for less? Go to Full Review

While the juicy performances and exciting meat of Savages are vicious fun, it’s a film whose feeble conceit undoes the pleasures of its base appeal. Go to Full Review

Ron W Mar 23, 2019 Very entertaining!A nice surprise in this flock of cartel movies...
Albus S Dec 1, 2018 Wasted talented veteran actors and badly chosen new actors in a movie that could've been much better if more effort has been put into the script See more
Albus S Nov 13, 2018 Basically a standard crime thriller with a highly contrived plot, but made with expertise and a capable cast; the double entendre ending is superfluous and disappointing. See more
Harry P Oct 16, 2018 This is absolutely abysmal, a wet fart into the receding corridor of a sad old Director desperately trying to stay relevant. It seems Stone thinks the only way to do this is to chuck a bit of violence, sex and one of the most unnecessary rape plotlines at a steaming turd of a script. The central trio of actors are rubbish and for some reason the only decent actors in the film Travolta, Hayek and Del Toro are given such abysmal cookie cut out character supporting roles that they all seem to be taking the piss with their performances. Not one of those films that annoys you because it's bad, just one that bores you. See more
