Ultimately, 'Runner Runner' is best left for a lazy Sunday when you're half-watching but mostly invested in your smartphone or a periphery conversation.

We are forced to contend with lukewarm machismo and endless male posturing from start to finish. Director Brad Furman really should’ve known when to fold.

Though the film is over before it ever gets going, the good-looking cast doesn’t make the substance-free story worth enduring.

Runner Runner is a slick, daft and unabashedly entertaining Hollywood thriller. It doesn't do anything new with the formula, but it knows how to engineer it in the correct way.

Runner Runner looks great and has the virtue of moving quickly under Brian Furman's direction, but it plays like a big-budget but otherwise average episode of a TV show about slightly shady people trying to bring down really shady people.

Mixes the vacuous and tedious, slick and predictable, smarmy and smug. There's gambling lingo, racism or sleaziness spouting from the mouths of male a**holes, conversations steaming with banal bluster, and tropical scenes out of perfume and liqueur ads.
