Anakin R Apr 19, 2019 Rudderless provides a genuinely moving story of a father that struggles to cope with the loss of his son. As a music fan, this movie provides an interesting way of dealing with grief as Sam uses the music from his son to re-engage with the real world by trying to better understand the events surrounding his son. It is a cracking soundtrack and wonderful acting by Billy Crudup as the struggling father and Anton Yelchin as the young musician finding confidence in his own music. Make what you will of the third act twist, this movie will leave a lasting impression and is a great first up directorial effort from William H Macy. See more

Rey G Feb 6, 2019 There is a good film in here somewhere but at the hands of Macy making his Directorial debut, he never really unearths it. The tone of the film is all over the place and at times it feels like a Hallmark TV Movie with an incredible script. Crudup, Fishburne and Yelchin all try their best and the soundtrack is really strong but you can't go for soapy melodrama and then just throw in the tonal switch that they attempt half way through here. I would say I'd be inclined to search out Macy's future work to see if he succeeded later on but looking at the reviews they look horrendous so I'll pass! See more

Oct 10, 2018 A pleasant surprise of a movie. The directorial debut of William H Macy is visual sound, pleases, and saddens your senses. Billy Crudup and the late Anton Yelchin deliver great performances. The supporting cast is sound as well. I caught this on the Starz free preview and didn't regret watching it one bit. Very well-done movie with some interesting story lines (no spoilers here). I would indeed recommend this anyone that enjoys movies. See more

Anakin L Aug 23, 2017 Melancholy & sad & joyous & musical w/ a 'whoa' kind of surprise w/in the story...Liked the music, the actors. The loss of Anton Yelchin in real life adds to the bittersweet aftertaste but think he pretty much nailed the moments in this little Rudderless world... See more
