Rosaline Reviews
An absolute delight. The cast has great chemistry and even the secondary and tertiary characters pop. Tragic that Hulu buried this one instead of letting it go theatrical so it could be enjoyed in a crowd
“Rosaline” is a perfectly fun film, and can be sharp in execution when it wants to be. But as much as Rosaline exudes wit and rebellion at every turn, the character lacks the depth that makes a Kat Stratford live on in the cultural lexicon.
This modern adaptation of the Shakespeare classic hinges its narrative theme on satire and doesn't get too caught up in intellectualising itself.
For me, a piece of light entertainment after being winded by a flu shot felt like it was what the doctor had ordered. And it's good enough for me to recommend it.
It’s neither as funny nor as clever as it thinks it is, but it is not without humor and charm.
This is just a lovely, fun film... Kaitlyn Dever is just a delight to watch, she has great comedic timing.
The film’s trailer gives away its best jokes, and what remains is a series of forced comedic moments.
The farcical Rosaline is by no stretch of the imagination a lean-in film. Rather, it strives to be a sit-back-and-smile charmer. For the most part, it succeeds.
An enjoyable fresh take on Shakespeare for teens, Kaitlyn Dever is fantastic
…Rosaline passes muster as an amusing update on the classic story that at least questions the assumptions that we casually make about the values within Shakespeare’s plays…
It's all disappointingly standard issue stuff for the rom-com genre, and needed more of a dose of sweet sorrow.
A fun spoof and homage to Shakespeare's oft-told tragic romance. Kaitlyn Dever is immensely watchable as a spunky heroine and Minnie Driver is quite hilarious!
If you watch Rosaline, you won't hate yourself. We've just seen it all before, done fresher and better, from Shakespeare in Love to 10 Things.
Rosaline is a comical and updated portrayal of Romeo and Juliet from a new perspective and tone that is not afraid to have some fun with the original material to make itself unique compared to other re-tellings.
Nicely mounted and unashamedly cheeky, the jape manages to rework one of the greatest romantic tragedies of all time into a teen love story that’s a little more upbeat.
Rosaline gives a hilarious, anachronistic sheen to one of the most classic love stories—just by telling Romeo and Juliet to step aside.
Kaitlyn Dever is one of the most promising of rising young stars. She has rarely made a misstep in her career choices so far. This was a misstep.
an amusing enough adventure that gets better as it goes along. ... director Karen Maine (Yes, God, Yes) gets some fun performances from the game cast
The anachronistic feminism of Rosaline doesn’t just ring false - it can barely be heard at this point, over the riot grrl din of past remixed Shakespeare heroines in 10 Things I Hate About You and She’s The Man.
No matter whether you know Romeo and Juliet by heart or have only a passing knowledge of the text, the film makes for a highly enjoyable viewing experience.
