Although Mike (Don DeFore) and Elvira Kent (Janis Paige) are in love, each suspects the other of unfaithfulness. Elvira plans an anniversary cruise to Rio, but, when Mike cancels at the last minute and encourages her to go alone, Elvira is convinced he's seeing someone else. She asks singer Georgia Garrett (Doris Day) to go on the cruise in her place, unaware that Mike has hired a detective, Peter Virgil (Jack Carson), to take the cruise to spy on "Elvira."

Romance on the High Seas might not be in the top tier of Michael Curtiz classics but the film is worth checking out for Doris Day's perfrmance. Go to Full Review

An easy-going crowd pleaser, and it's easy to see why Day became such a huge star - her effervescent, folksy charm feels almost effortless. Go to Full Review

It may not be as celebrated a film debut as those by Julie Andrews in Mary Poppins or Lauren Bacall in To Have and Have Not, but Doris Day certainly grabbed everyone's attention when she premiered with a peppy performance in this effervescent comedy. Go to Full Review

Ditected by Michael Curtiz (Casablanca), this musical marks the feature debut of Doris Day, and its best part are the songs, including the Oscar-nominated tune, It's Magic. Go to Full Review

George S Feb 24, 2019 Super cute movie, mostly a romance with hints of screwball comedy. The plot can get a little confusing at times, but in general it has an interesting story and is well-acted. Doris Day is amazing here, especially considering this is her screen debut. Wish movies like this were more mainstream today. See more
Feb 2, 2019 The best musical romance movie ever made! With the best movie song ever sung: It's Magic!
Kylo S Mar 31, 2018 A surprise from director Michael Curtiz: a musical! The feature debut of Doris Day features many opportunities for her to wail out with the musical stylings, and she wails indeed. Another interesting, if curious, part is the casting decision to go romantic lead with Jack Carson, who usually chauffeuer's in character/comic parts. Here he even gets to sing a little himself (even if he cannot hold a candle to Day's star wattage). Overall a decent production coming from a surprising source, but the main attraction is the enchanting Day. See more
Han W Nov 10, 2017 Romance on the High Seas is a decent film. It is about romantic misunderstandings abound when spouses suspect each other of being unfaithful. Jack Carson, Janis Page, and Doris Day give good performances. The screenplay is a little slow in places. Michael Curtiz did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the humor and romance. See more
Anakin P Oct 29, 2017 Some good old fashioned shenanigans framed around a musical.
