When the creaky old Rocky ran up the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art with his newly adopted dog Punchy, reached the top, and punched the air in triumph, I wiped away a tear or two. Because those are not just steps. Go to Full Review

Kylo M Mar 11, 2019 A solid return. Enjoyable with some really well delivered quotes.
Draco S Mar 1, 2019 Just like the first, but is a whole lot worse. Doesn't feel like you're watching a Rocky film due to it being forgettable, boring and the chemistry between the characters are just painful to watch See more
Rey S Feb 27, 2019 Rocky Balboa brings the Italian Stallian back to the big screen 16 years after the release of Rocky V. Some people will say that this is the best Rocky film since Rocky in 1976, but for me, this is the worst. This movie doesn't feel like it is Rocky film because it is basically about a man whose wife has died, so he opens up a Cafe in here memory and then decides to box. It is so boring. The cinematography in this film is one of the worst that I have seen that has been put onto the big screen. Most of the time the cinematography look blue and blocked out most of the screen so at times it was just a big blue blur. The chemistry in this film between Ricky and his son was even worse than Rocky V because in Rocky V, Rocky actually had a close connection with his son but in this one it was horrible to watch and felt like that just put his character in it to make fans happy. The start of this movie was awful because it just dives straight in and shows us that Adrian has died without no backstory or explanation of how she died. I had to Google it to find out. But the film gets a whole lot worse because the film is mostly about Rocky who has to cope with his personal life when the film is supposed to be about boxing, so it felt like a film about a man lifestyle when he has became a widow. The boxing in this film was absolutely awful. When Rocky won the fight I was extremely confused because Dixon didn't get KO'd, so how did Rocky win the fight felt fixed, so it wasn't enjoyable and it wouldn't keep you on the edge of your seat. Take you back Do do do do Take you back. This film really did take you back because Rocky Balboa felt just like the first. A man who wants to fight so he is able to become the heavyweight champion of the world. The training sequence in this film felt very nostalgic and just like the first, him punching meat and the sequence ending when he is celebrating at the top of the stairs overlooking the town. So overall Rocky Balboa is a terrible terrible film which is boring, forgettable and non jaw dropping. I felt very sleepy because of how boring it was. Nothing about Rocky Balboa is good, so do not watch it,only if you're a hard core Rocky fan who loves the other five films. Grade F See more
Finn R Feb 13, 2019 Can someone please section this guy, he's lost his wife, he has way too many photos of her. He was close to being a vegetable before he took Apollo on the first time. He had bad brain damage , had a fight with russian who killed his best mate. He then replaced his kid with a bigger kid who could box, this after somehow he lost millions and millions, he's now the greatest heavyweight ever and he can't get any TV work ? Anyway back to the kid he adopted , the kid turns out to be a baddy and they end up fighting, yes the man who if a fly lands on his head might die has a bare Knuckle fight with a heavy weight champion 20 odd years younger than him. The morons who are supposed to be his friends watch him. So here we are later all that PTSD , brain damage etc . And know he's going to end up fighting the current heavy weight champion at the age of 75 or whatever he is. Lock this man up FFS . See more
Theodore W Jan 29, 2019 (84/100) Rocky Balboa is a great final entry in Rocky's story. I'm really looking forward to seeing Creed now. Although the formula is quite old, just seeing Philadelphia again, all the places out of the first movie, and Rocky reflecting back on those times, is very powerful. Overall, Rocky Balboa is a fun and final look back at what used to be, and a good moment to hand over the story to someone else. See more
Finn M Jan 27, 2019 I think Iâ(TM)ve stayed away from this movie for so long because I expected it to be garbage. I mean, letâ(TM)s be adult about this, Rocky V was no picnic. I was done with Rocky. Until I saw the trailer for Creed. It was at that moment that I decided to give things another go. Yes, the boxer we all know and love Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) is back at it in Rocky Balboa facing off against his first (and hopefully last) opponent since Drago. Acting: 10 Beginning: 9 Two things really grabbed me as the movie opens. I loved the beautiful shots of Philadelphia at the start. The city plays a huge role in Rockyâ(TM)s character development and these shots helped get me in tune with the heart of what the city is all about. I also appreciated the first scene between Rocky and his son Rocky Jr. (Milo Ventimiglia) depicting their strained relationship since Adrianâ(TM)s death. Itâ(TM)s an awkward scene that makes you sympathize with where Rocky is in his life. How did he get to this point? Itâ(TM)s seem like heâ(TM)s lost so much, yet heâ(TM)s still that gentle character from the 70â(TM)s we fell in love with. Seeing this scene was enough to tell me this film would take a lot different approach than the previous movies. Characters: 10 Cinematography/Visuals: 10 Conflict: 10 Rockyâ(TM)s older and not at the top of his game like he was when he took on Clubber Lang (what a name!). Yet he still found a way to get me out of my chair as he did in previous movies. The main bout gets pretty intense in spots as you root for the Italian Stallion to knock some sense into the new kid on the block. The conflict extends beyond the ring as well as Rocky tries to help people from his neighborhood while maintaining close relationships with family members Paulie (Burt Young) and Rocky Jr. On the surface heâ(TM)s a hero, but underneath his life is in shambles. As an audience, we find ourselves rallying behind Rocky as weâ(TM)ve done in all the others movies past. Genre: 10 Memorability: 7 Compared to other films, it doesnâ(TM)t quite have the same memorability as classic ones Iâ(TM)ve seen, but succeeds in giving us a reason to cheer and a reason to feel. Rocky Balboa succeeds in being more than just a movie about trading punches. Rather than being hollow and fight-driven, itâ(TM)s a movie with real heart. Pace: 4 The âheartâ? portion, unfortunately, comes at a cost. When you watch the movie, you have to adjust your expectations as things move at a much slower pace. Rocky doesnâ(TM)t even consider making a return until well into the movie. I kept watching waiting for a fight to finally happen and it was slow-going. However, even with a slower pace than the previous movies, Balboa still shines. Plot: 8 Resolution: 9 Somewhat predictable but no less powerful. It ties up nicely what we see at the beginning. A fitting finale to Rockyâ(TM)s in-the-ring saga. Overall: 87 Heroes in movies come in many forms. What makes Rocky so special is his consistency of character throughout the decades. He swore in the beginning to never change who he was, but I think he lied to us. I think he became an even better man. Rocky Balboa. Hero for the generations. See more
