What to Know

Critics Consensus

Like its title, Rock Star is rather generic, being not so much about the heavy metal scene than about rock cliches and formula.

Draco R Mar 15, 2018 This film is truly awful. Marky Mark is miscast and the film just seems to do nothing more than make fun of the rock genre without saying anything new. A deeply hollow and unsatisfying film. Just watch Wayne's World or Spinal Tap See more
Hermione L Feb 11, 2018 Despite the talented cast, Rock Star is a cliched generic movie that has nothing to add to rock movies. The plot is predictable the story is repetitive and old. By the Way I have to say that I was surprised about how amazing was Mark Wahlberg voice. See more
Harry R Jan 4, 2018 This is a film geared towards those who sing their fav rock songs at full volume in their shower or car, half dreaming about the adulation and power of becoming a rock god. And not one of those phony ones, but the real deal, the ones that believe in the dream. It pretends (like Cecil B. DeMille used to do) to look down on the extravagant lifestyle, the posing, the groupies, "but first let's just get a little taste of all that to begin with". The actors do well conveying the belief in the dream of rock n' roll, and look properly surprised to discover the seedy underbelly of the game. All in all not a clumsy effort as most rock n' roll fantasies tend to be. See more
Poe W Oct 15, 2017 Great movie with an awesome soundtrack, and is simply a movie you must watch every time it comes on.
Luke W Oct 12, 2017 Mark Wahlberg is good as a Tim "Ripper" Owens type character, but the rest of the movie is a rather insufferable bore filled to the brim with clichés that ultimately take the movie nowhere interesting. See more
Hermione R Sep 17, 2017 Good energy and pace... decent characters (and Wahlberg/Aniston don't hurt). Pretty good story of singer's rise as replacement singer in band he adores, his new partying ways, and his growth out of the band. See more
