The songs of Journey, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard and other artists underscore a tale of big dreams in Hollywood. Soon after hopping off a bus from the Midwest, aspiring singer Sherrie Christian immediately finds herself in trouble. Coming to her rescue is Drew, a bar-back at the legendary club the Bourbon Room. With stars in their eyes, the young lovers chase their dreams, but a misunderstanding involving rock god Stacee Jaxx threatens to tear them apart.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Its exuberant silliness is almost enough to make up for its utter inconsequentiality, but Rock of Ages is ultimately too bland and overlong to justify its trip to the big screen.

Really, it's like a longer, louder version of Glee or American Idol, but with actors who can't sing rather than singers who can't act. Plus, it rocks you like a hurricane. Go to Full Review

It's easy to see how Rock of Ages became a crowd-pleaser on Broadway, where audiences got caught up in the energy of '80s hit songs performed live. Go to Full Review

Not a big fan of this one, but was very entertained and taken back to my youth with all the rock music featured by JOURNEY, FOREIGNER, PAT BENATAR, TWISTED SISTER, REO SPEEDWAGON and others. Rock on dudes and catch this one on Netflix….!!!! Go to Full Review

The best musicals are those with songs that develop naturally within a story instead of obligatorily filling every moment with yet another song. This is not one of them. Go to Full Review

An abundance of energy makes up for the unconvincing lip-syncing and spontaneous song-and-dance sequences that aren't as smoothly integrated into character actions. Go to Full Review

Kylo M Mar 28, 2019 Very fun and entertaining.
Harry S Jan 16, 2019 The problem with Rock of Ages isn't the soundtrack, as the song choices are pretty stellar classic rock 'n roll tunes. The issue isn't the supporting cast either as the big time actors/actresses are fine for the most part. The biggest problem is that the two leads are awful... in acting. Their romance story approaches Attack of the Clones level of cheese, and ruins whatever good this movie has to offer. Which isn't very much because the singing isn't all that impressive. The cover of Foreigner's "I Want to Know What Love Is" is embarrassing. I'm sorry but I don't care if a film is well choreographed if the main characters suck and the singing, (especially for a musical) is lame. See more
Jan 11, 2019 So crap it's brilliant hahah
Ron R Jan 1, 2019 Super entertaining trip down high-school memory lane for me. The covers were really well done.
Aug 26, 2018 While watching this film I just wanted to headbhtt nails, not only has it got Walter white in it's got Russel brand, enough said
Apr 30, 2018 A weak attempt to piggy-back on the musical revival. The thin storyline and high-school vocals of young stars mixed with (former?) A-listers is barely entertaining enough to not switch the channel. See more
