Critics Consensus

Led by a brilliant performance from star Frank Langella, Robot & Frank works as both a quirky indie drama and as a smart, thoughtful meditation on aging.

It's OK, I guess, as far as it goes, but it doesn't go far enough, and, in the end, settles for what I most feared it would settle for: sentimentality. Go to Full Review

Robot & Frank, on the other hand, is a tonic of a film: it's all understatement. The whimsical but whip-smart tone suggests a liveaction version of a Pixar movie Go to Full Review

Ageing, isolation, broken families, memory and the impact of modern technology are all playfully woven through a smart, comforting narrative that's at once immensely satisfying yet wonderfully unexpected. Go to Full Review

George S Mar 23, 2019 An indie sci-fi recalls the classic relations in portraying futuristic reality with subliminal themes that Frank Langella nicely demonstrates in the film's genuine meditation towards aging from past reminiscent to loneliness then possession at an understanding matter, while also accompanied by a nice cast and backed-up by good chemistry and humor. Theodore M Dec 7, 2018 Brilliant writing. Great story. Excellent cast. Didnâ(TM)t see that coming.
Hermione R Nov 25, 2018 A comedy drama about an OAP befriending a robot could have been a disaster. However this near future odd couple works. It's an old-fashioned meditation on dementia, which is funny and never soppy. See more
Poe M Nov 16, 2018 This film was solid.
Anakin G Sep 20, 2018 Cute film but some plot inconsistencies are bothersome.
Ron R Apr 8, 2018 Old man and a robot. No schmaltz. Nice work.
