Richard Brody The New Yorker Apr 23, 2013
The movie is simultaneously an apogee of the classic Western style, with its principled violence in defense of just law, and an eccentrically hyperbolic work of modernism, which yokes both bumptious erotic comedy and soul-searing rawness to the mission. Go to Full Review

To watch Rio Bravo is to see a master craftsman at work. The film is seamless. There is not a shot that is wrong. It is uncommonly absorbing, and the 141-minute running time flows past like running water. Go to Full Review
TIME Magazine Apr 27, 2009
Wayne, of course, walks off with the show -- not by doing anything in particular, but simply by being what he is: at 51, still one of the most believable he-men in Hollywood. Go to Full Review
Moira Walsh The Catholic World Nov 28, 2023
In addition to its excessive length and consequent slow pace the film has other liabilities... Nevertheless the characterizations are unusually solid and get more interesting as they go along. Go to Full Review

Abraham W Mar 6, 2019 john wayne sure made a lot of movies
Anakin G Mar 3, 2019 Dated, some acting is obvious.
Finn R Feb 21, 2019 One of the coolest casts ever!
Jan 26, 2019 The best Western movie ever made!
Harry S Dec 27, 2018 I intend a half star. This movie is a poorly scripted, dully directed, flat, uninspiring, exercise in how Hollywood pleases itself. It is classically inane, at best. I don't know how to describe Angie Dickinson's many, many, many, monological over-acted outpourings except to wonder how she ever worked again. Every performance will annoy you to a greater or lesser degree. John Wayne wins the Least Dreadful award, let the balloons fly. And do not trust the opinon of anyone who says they love this movie for they surely lie. Thumbs down, as if never to rise again. See more
Anakin S Dec 10, 2018 Great movie one of my favorite John Wayne movies of all time
