Left for dead on a sun-scorched planet, fugitive Riddick fights for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he has yet encountered. His only hope for escape is to activate an emergency beacon, but that brings with it a different problem: mercenaries. The first ship carries an especially violent and lethal group; the second is led by a man from Riddick's past. With time running out, Riddick realizes that neither group will leave without his head as a trophy.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

It may not win the franchise many new converts, but this back-to-basics outing brings Riddick fans more of the brooding sci-fi action they've come to expect.

He's spent the bulk of his career hiding in franchises, hypermasculinizing himself. We can live with this. But this new movie makes you wonder whether Diesel can. Go to Full Review

David Twohy's film is scarcely original, but the sheer survivalist grind of our hero, against comical odds, becomes appealingly mad ... Go to Full Review

Without a doubt, 'Riddick' is B-movie territory but it's handled with direct-to-video finesse. Go to Full Review

A step up from the 2004 slumber party The Chronicles of Riddick but still a few rungs down the ladder from 2000's pitch-perfect Pitch Black. Go to Full Review

Wow, the performances are bad. I will say though it’s mostly because of an awful, awful script and the dialogue makes it laughable... Go to Full Review

Han W Feb 10, 2019 Considering my opinion on Vin Diesel, I am much more lenient when it comes to reviewing his movies, even those outside of the Fast & Furious franchise. While I wish the first act or half the movie was entirely like the first 15 minutes, a relatively dialogue-free portion of the movie as we see Riddick go on an adventure with his new I Am Legend alien dog. I don't think this movie is a full-on remake of Pitch Black. Yes, it involves a group of people attempting to get off before dark when the monsters come out to play even if that means murdering each other. One of them even turns out to be the father of a character back from the first film. But I admire the movie's return to the first movie's roots. Yes, I thought the sequels, this movie included were slightly better, it's clear all that world-building in Chronicles wouldn't be for everyone. Vin Diesel is still cool as the antihero, the special effects are good and there are a combination of awesome and funny moments. My one genuine criticism is the character of Dahl. Not because she's a bad character but more because it becomes hard to take her seriously due to her immature sailor cursing almost as if David Twohy was flaunting the fact that "Yeah! We're going back to being R-rated!". It's also a remarkable moment when you manage to release a sequel THEATRICALLY and with a decent enough budget to give it cinematic quality even though the last movie bombed. Riddick isn't a humongous masterpiece but I enjoyed it. See more
Feb 7, 2019 If you're a Riddick fan you'll like this movie. If not then you won't be interested.
Abraham L Jan 9, 2019 Movie has some nice touches, but the dialogue is very weak, the direction could be better, and the women's body objectification was strong in this one. See more
Han P Jun 3, 2018 I watched this film at night in a small flat with very thin walls, where the audio was set so low I only understood half the dialogue. That doesn't matter beacause Riddick isn't about the dialogue, although it is sort of about bad one-liners. Riddick is about being really cool and tough but also being kind of good, in a dangerous and sexy way. Riddick dodges bizarre energy bullets by jumping in the air and twisting around, and then kills people with knives hidden in his clothes. Riddick befriends and trains an alien hyena, and their bond is the closest thing to love shown in this movie. Riddick says a lot of shit in a real deep voice. I want his voice to tell me it'll be all OK. Riddick has only two female characters with spoken lines (and a few with no lines and no clothes) and both of them have their own rape narrative. Riddick's ending makes no sense on a human level. It feels as though the hook of the film is only introduced in the last 20 minutes and it doesn't make a lot of sense either. See more
Luke W Apr 12, 2018 Non scrivo nemmeno in inglese: più che "Riddick" direi ridicolo...
Hermione R Dec 10, 2017 I like the first half of the movie but the then the second half falls flat for me and at the same time the second half felt boring for me, almost fell asleep during the second half See more
