When French drug kingpin Philippe Douvier (Robert Webber) learns that he's losing the respect of New York mob bosses, he decides to murder Chief Inspector Jacques Clouseau (Peter Sellers) to regain his reputation. After a case of mistaken identity, Clouseau is declared dead, much to the delight of his former boss, Charles Dreyfus (Herbert Lom). When Clouseau reemerges, he teams up with Douvier's ex-lover, Simone LeGree (Dyan Cannon), to break up the drug trafficking operation.

What fun it would be to see all those involved - including perhaps the durable Clouseau character - try something from scratch.

The final Clouseau film to star Peter Sellers, Revenge of the Pink Panther, is disappointing with repeated gags that fall flat, a too-convoluted plot and some truly troubling Asian and Italian stereotypes (even contextualizing).

The film belongs to Sellers, who never fails to delight as Clouseau with his absurd pronunciations and crazy ways of doing things Perfectly underscoring his movements and those of the rest of the cast is the Henry Mancini score.

Okay, but not the best in the series.

Though this fifth film in The Pink Panther comedy film series (I personally don't count the Inspector Clouseau film without Sellers to be canon) isn't as consistent with the laughs and script this is still an entertaining film that once again has plus points over the previous films. I like the fact Cato has a more expanded role compared to the prior films, the action is the best in the series and I like all the different disguises Clouseau uses. It also has a solid cast, good score and I like the plot but I can't forgive the return of Dreyfus since he clearly died in the previous film.

This movie started out promising, but it became way too chaotic and lost its focus. Peter Sellers didn't shine as brightly in this one and it is a shame that it fell apart so quickly in the second half. Still worth watching if you are into the series, but I doubt it will be one of your favorites.
