Critics Consensus

The impressive cast cannot rescue Rendition, which explores complex issues in woefully simplified terms.

But Rendition, in the end, is a Lifetime movie with pretensions toward being a political thriller. (They could even call it YOU HAVE MY HUSBAND! since Witherspoon shrieks that at Streep in a ludicrous scene.) Go to Full Review

I don't fault Rendition for its liberal politics. I fault it for hammering home those politics in such pounding, slanted fashion. Go to Full Review

If these new, allegedly topical movies are to make us feel anything -- to move us toward any action or even just toward any fresh realization -- they need to at least seem alive on the screen, instead of just courting our polite, measured applause. Go to Full Review

It might have been an intriguing site of debate; instead, it’s a message movie that has its answers wrapped up in a pretty bow. Go to Full Review

Theodore P Sep 22, 2018 Watchable but there is like two movies going on at once. The big name actors are in one movie and the lesser known middle eastern actors are another. Nothing really outstanding just another one of those movies to expose America's tactics of gaining information from terrorists by torture. Outstanding Meryl Streep as the corrupt CIA boss was a highlight as was high-ranking police official, Abbas-i "Abasi" Fawal (Yigal Naor) who oversees the torture process. Jake Gyllenhaal sleepwalks the movie as the CIA Analyst. . All in all watchable but nothing we haven't seen before. This has a touch of class though given by the cast. See more

Aug 16, 2017 I can't believe the pettiness and biases of professional movie reviewers. This is a fantastic movie that I don't have the time to fully review, but it has amazing acting and a fascinating plot line with edge of your seat twist ending. See more
Kylo P Aug 10, 2017 A compelling, powerful film about where torture gets you and about responsibility for your actions, and what you are prepared to carry on your conscience. A wonderful cast does an excellent job with a gripping story. Once again I disagreed with the critics on this one, although I believe that Rodger Ebert liked it, and I agreed with the audience. This was not an easy watch, but one that, as American citizens, we should see. And I always thought a rendition was another orchestration of a song. See more

Ron G Feb 15, 2017 A bit confusing towards the end. A lot of things left unexplained.
