A
The Red Riding films all come across as great, gritty tales of police corruption and human failing, but it's the first film that has the most impact, mainly because the young reporter Dunford is such a mix of romantic notions. Go to Full Review

This is a noir, the kind where the good-for-nothing gumshoe (here, an investigative reporter) has a habit of getting his face bashed in, usually on account of a girl. Go to Full Review

Each film is enriched by collective detail, but it would have been richer had they played off each other rather than extending the argument. Go to Full Review

3.5/4
On its own, the film works wonderfully as a piece about corruption overtaking a naïve idealist, but its emotional impact draws us in, compelling the audience to return now that the stage is set. Go to Full Review

Beautifully directed by Jarrold, 1974 is a haunting and frightening portrait of a man willing to find the answers at all costs that approaches Zodiac in its quality. Go to Full Review

Hagrid G Dec 25, 2018 A disjointed plot sabotaged this film. It starts as a serial murder case, and then abandons that idea for a mob case. The only through line is the main character, who's not interesting enough to carry the move. See more
George S Dec 18, 2017 Had a difficult time understanding what they were saying due to the thick accents. Other than that this was a good movie that keeps up the suspense right to the very end. See more
Leia S Sep 22, 2017 Seeing Andrew Garfield in this and his small role in the Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus in theaters, let me see the potential of this rising star. A part of me wish he hadn’t taken on the role of Spider-man because I wanted to see him in films that continued to challenge him. Now that that stint is over though I am glad to see him being choosier with his roles and am excited for whatever he comes out with next. See more
Luke S Mar 12, 2017 Beautiful first entry, which at times feels like a real horror, in the Red Riding trilogy with the memorable Andrew Garfield perfrormance. See more
Theodore L Jan 7, 2017 + Bollocks for those who're rating this British low-budget'er higher than Low. And if "bollocks" is said one more time in the script ... That and the use of little or no lighting augmentation and the overuse of a fog machine to make most indoor scenes look like the building is on fire somewhere. + This took effort to finish, no reward, & an so-what aftertaste. And the writer's just too hip with his latter-day "trilogy," the next two of which will be missed, but not missed for having not seen. 2-hrs time is too valuable. Bloody old England never looked wetter nor worse on film. See more
