Ex-FBI agent Will Graham (Edward Norton) is an expert investigator who quit the Bureau after almost losing his life in the process of capturing the elusive Dr. Lecter (Anthony Hopkins). After a series of particularly grisly murders, Graham soon realizes that the best way to catch this killer, known as the Tooth Fairy, is to find a way to get inside the killer's mind. For Graham, that means confronting his past and facing his former nemesis, the now-incarcerated Lecter.

Critics Consensus

Competently made, but everything is a bit too familiar.

There's still enough life in the Lecter mythology to create a must-see audience for what is, basically, a dja-vu experience.

Manhunter, Michael Mann’s 1986 adaptation of Thomas Harris’ novel Red Dragon, is superior to Brett Ratner’s 2002 Red Dragon, but the contest is closer than one might imagine.

Cliche opening aside, Red Dragon makes an excellent psychological thriller that is well acted intense, and tragic.

Decent fare, but not a patch on the Silence of the Lambs.

An excellent thriller from beginning to end, almost everything works. I was honestly surprised how good a prequel could be. Norton and Hopkins give really solid performances. I watched this before i saw Silence of the lambs and it had me sucked in from beginning to end. Highly recommended
