What to Know

Critics Consensus

[REC] 3 Genesis discards the handheld POV of its predecessors and loses the franchise's fresh perspective in the bargain, upping the gags and gore to the detriment of the chills that audiences crave.

Perhaps Paco Plaza's fictional virus finally got to him because the fact that he thinks he can do away with found footage and horror in the third installment is downright bizarre. Go to Full Review

Plaza throws in more than enough ludicrous touches of his own to grab viewers by their arteries and never let go. Go to Full Review

With slapstick smothering the scares, "[REC 3]" is further marred by a plot in which the muted Catholicism of its antecedents is turned up to full blast. Go to Full Review

This third film in the jolting Spanish zombie franchise is deftly directed by Paco Plaza. Go to Full Review

Lulls you into expecting a redundant experience in its opening minutes, only to entirely circumvent expectations while being as satisfying as its predecessors. Go to Full Review

It’s exceedingly gory, more so than its predecessors, and its lack of technical ingenuity and half-hearted use of the “found footage” device somehow makes it less interesting. Go to Full Review

Han S Nov 15, 2018 It does not follow the previous 2 because it is not in found footage
Luke S Aug 25, 2018 3.5/5. Rec 3 is not a good Rec movie. It quickly ditches the found-footage elements and is more of a horror-comedy, but it's a decent zombie flick with some neat visuals and awesome gore. See more
See more
Theodore P Apr 22, 2018 How did people not like this movie?
Anakin W Aug 29, 2015 After [REC] 1 and 2 will go down in horror history Genesis wont, First off it has little to do with the first two I suppose it's kind of a prequel, But it felt like a cheap spin off, It starts by using the found footage effect for about 25 minutes where very little happens then all of a sudden when we finally get to the main story it switches to normal filming mode that straight away feels wrong, It felt more like a Dawn Of The Dead film with some silly bits thrown in, The only thing that makes this film a [REC] movie is the title, It's not a terrible film just a terrible entry to one of the best horror franchises ever.
