Picture lacks highlight material; even the war scenes don't quite have the necessary impact and the relationship between Taylor and Clift could have been charged up more. Go to Full Review

The acting of Liz Taylor and Monty Clift is not bad, but MGM's effort to recreate another successful Civil war melodrama in the mold of Gone With the Wind is disppointing for many different reaons. Go to Full Review

Anakin P Mar 5, 2019 This one belongs in soap opera heaven, but several pegs lower than the daily TV fare of the networks. Nothing really works and who in their right mind would choose an out of control southern belle lunatic, like Taylor, over the beautiful and rational Eva Marie Saint? It's all too unbelievable, and, by the end, who really cares anyway? Taylor seems lost in her dizzying world of emotional excess and Clift is fighting for someone who doesn't exist. See more
Feb 2, 2019 The best romance movie ever made! With the best movie score ever composed!
Harry S Mar 19, 2018 A chic-flick sold as an adventure film. Great sets, costumes, & cinematography; this civil war epic might have been edited down to near obscurity or else the director failed to capture the scope of the script. Either way it seems that two entwined tales share the narrative instead of one tale dominating with extra bits shown for context. Making for a film that feels just a tad incomplete. Watch for scene stealing Lee Marvin, with an out of character appearance by Rod Taylor and an in-character appearance by native Georgian DeForrest Kelly. See more
Hermione G Nov 15, 2008 When is this coming out on dvd? I have been waiting.
