Although susceptible to violent outbursts, bathroom supply business owner Barry Egan (Adam Sandler) is a timid and shy man by disposition, leading a lonely, uneventful life -- partly due to the constant berating he suffers from his seven sisters. However, several events transpire that shake up Egan's mundane existence, one of which is falling in love with one sister's co-worker, Lena Leonard (Emily Watson). But the romance is threatened when Egan falls victim to an extortionist.

Odd, touching, and unique, Punch-Drunk Love is also delightfully funny, utilizing Adam Sandler's comic persona to explore the life of a lonely guy who finds love.

The reinvention of Sandler, of course, is the big sell and it takes a film-maker of Anderson’s vision to see in his cartoonish oeuvre the potential for softness and sympathy. Go to Full Review

Hagrid S Apr 21, 2019 Anyone who wants proof that Adam Sandler should just stick to his stupid fart jokes, the look here.
Poe R Apr 8, 2019 Paul Thomas Anderson described Punch-Drunk Love as an art house Adam Sandler film, which pretty accurately describes this. Roger Ebert said Anderson criticized Sandler's films by making one of his own. In this movie Sandler plays a Happy Gilmore-like character as a real person rather than as a cartoon, and the people around him react more like actual people. Sandler plays his character with depth and nuance, which makes his later low-brow comedies more frustrating to watch now that we know what he is capable of. We might not approve of everything his character does, but we understand why he does it, even better than he does. Captivating film. See more
George Mar 8, 2019 Sandler at his best - a beautiful movie
Feb 24, 2019 Upon watching this movie I feel my IQ has gone down and I'll never look at Adam Sandler the same way after all the awkward smile scenes and seeing him wreck an innocent bathroom and smash crackheads face in with a tire iron See more
Han S Feb 21, 2019 Calls them back demanding his $500 be returned to him. Instead he and gf get side swiped. Beat them and up and visits Hoffman and no money is refunded? Out $500 and now a damaged car. Wouldnï¿ 1/2 1/2 1/2 1/2(TM)t call that fixing things. Love Sandler (wish did more straight lace films) and P.T. Anderson. Just found that odd, on being a new man and taking charge. Last scene with Hoffman, way he acted and no mention of the money? Scene lacked redemption. See more
Hagrid P Feb 20, 2019 saw this once when it was in theaters...one of the few movies I almost walked out of the theater during. Maybe I need to re evaluate some day but, from what I remember it was boring AF for me. See more
