What to Know

Critics Consensus

Another stale American remake of a successful Japanese horror film, Pulse bypasses the emotional substance of the original and overcompensates with pumped-up visuals and every known horror cliche.

The unanswered questions in the original added to the mood, but by trying to answer even just a few of them, this Pulse just gets more confusing and less scary. Go to Full Review

Pulse is an ugly mess that makes little to no sense. I am sure I thought it looked quite cool in the naive 00s, but it's hypercontrasted-desaturated-blue/green-hued look has aged like milk in the sun. Go to Full Review

The potential it has to be an adult thriller is ruined because it's just more teen marketed crap. Go to Full Review

Rey P Dec 25, 2018 ITS REEALY REALY REALY BAD
Kylo R Nov 14, 2018 Haven't seen the J-horror version but it has to be significantly better than this considering all the praise it gets. This was very dumb and not scary at all. The premise had potential in the beginning but then quickly slid into an ineffective bad horror movie. See more
Theodore M Oct 9, 2018 Basically "The Ring" being contacted and conjured into an opened portal through the ouija internet with ridiculous, elliptical narrative. After watching this rushed attempt of another domesticized story of a Japanese tale, it's obvious whilst unseen that the original could be a better offering in terms of deliverance. (C) See more
Theodore R Mar 22, 2018 Wow-some crappy movie is just bad!
Feb 5, 2018 i enjoyed the movie. Had a great beginning and a great ending. It was interesting to see ghosts in a digital world.
Luke S Sep 2, 2017 Pulse is a profoundly ridiculous supernatural thriller that is void of any suspense or shock value. A supposed parable of our obsession with technological advances and the deadly consequences they may have if we summon the wrong side of these forces. The normally likeable Kristen Bell is blatantly miscast as our heroine and when it comes time for the conclusion it seems we have lost the will to care about what happens to anyone still living.
