Despite a new friendship with a waitress and a job busing tables at a diner, Norman begins to hear voices once again. No matter how hard he tries, Norman cannot keep "Mother" from returning and coaxing him to unleash the homicidal maniac within.

Critics Consensus

Although it can't hold a cleaver to the classic original, Psycho II succeeds well enough on its own merits to satisfy horror fans.

Franklin's consummate handling of suspense, black humour and several paradigm-shifting twists mak[e] this a worthy sequel to the original, and a convincing evocation of the old master's ghost. Go to Full Review

Director Richard Franklin deftly keeps the suspense and tension on high while dolling out dozens of shock-of-recognitions shots drawn from the audience's familiarity with Psycho. Go to Full Review

Though far from a worthy successor to the original (but why make impossible demands?) the film clearly could have been much worse. Go to Full Review

Harry G Jan 28, 2019 It's an good movie and better than most sequels, but sometimes has bad acting and is predictable. Jerry Goldsmith's soundtrack is very good, however. See more
Hermione R Oct 25, 2018 Amazingly imaginative (late) sequel makes you route for the former villain, Anthony Perkins in a wonderfully ambiguous role, and actually continues the saga with some surprising twists. See more
Hermione L Oct 18, 2018 Psycho II certainly isn't Hitchcock. Much of the unnerving subtlety and pitch-perfect visuals have been unceremoniously stripped away. Still, this is a shockingly weird, uniquely cool, and violently macabre sequel that, while not quite reaching the original's heights, gets pretty dang close. Love that it doesn't just try and repeat the proven success of the original film, and instead just looks honestly at the future of the Norman Bates story. See more
Abraham R Oct 14, 2018 I do not understand how almost nobody likes this movie, it has everything that was expected of "Psycho II" (maybe even more). This movie managed to elevate the movie to another level, managed to make us see the characters in another way and made us cheer for the villain (something rare in a movie of this kind); I also managed to have great scenes of suspense and great scenes of mystery. Highly recommend. See more
Harry R Jul 6, 2018 A surprisingly entertaining and well made sequel to an all time classic horror film. Anthony Perkins gives a strong performance in a solidly written and directed feature. See more
Han S Apr 2, 2018 A surprisingly creepy sequel to the classic Hitchcock horror film. While Psycho II doesn't live up to its predecessor in terms of style or quality, it does still continue the story of Norman Bates and offers some creepy moments to make this entry enjoyable. 3/5 stars See more
