What to Know

Critics Consensus

Primeval is a low-quality horror film, which due to the inane political messages does not even qualify as campy fun.

Primeval is bad, but it's never boring, and you can't say that about many of its peers. Go to Full Review

The sub-sub-Anaconda bottom-feeder Primeval makes the mistake of taking itself far too seriously; with its exploitative images of civil war and genocide, it's the Blood Diamond of 25-foot-killer-crocodile movies. Go to Full Review

Primeval does too much for a movie of this caliber; it feels stuck between two genres. As a counterpoint, its flawed and messy ambition is still preferable to all the more routine crocsploitation movies currently swimming in existence. Go to Full Review

It's this sort of social insight that elevates Primeval above typical marauding animal fare. Go to Full Review

Primeval is one of crummiest killer-beast flicks of all time. It actually makes the B.C.-shot giant-croc debacle Lake Placid look half-decent, but it sure the hell wasn't. Go to Full Review

Rey G Nov 24, 2018 I saw this film in 2008 and it was a bit weird to say the least. Without expecting anything this is what I made of it: Primeval is about a giant monstrous crocodile terrorizing a village and believe it or not it is a true story. There actually exists a beast of this sort and even has a name- Gustave, which makes the thoughts even more harrowing. Anyway, the film is alright- I barely have any recollections but it is a decently made B movie. The shots with the croc were quite good. I am going with a 4 stars but I feel just because of the rarity of the subject you should give this one a shot.(Okay execution unbelievable fact which formed the basis of this film ). See more

Hermione M Apr 26, 2018 Not the best movie. It's alright. The only reason I am posting this review is because idiots don't think it's real. While not a true story Gustave is a real killer croc who is probably still alive and very very big. If you want to learn more about Gustave watch some National Geographic stuff. The croc is real and does kill for sport. Nobody really knows why. Some scientist think he's an asshole. See more
