What to Know

Critics Consensus

Though Streep is dependably terrific in her role, the rest of the movie is too sitcom-ish, and the romance itself is dull.

The writing and direction by Ben Younger is crisp and insightful enough to prevail, and the performances are all very good. Go to Full Review

Director and cast are smart enough to not shy away from a romantic comedy that can only end, if not badly, then at least in the melancholy tears of lessons hard won. Go to Full Review

Follows a familiar boy-meets-girl scenario, but Younger turns the routine into combustible fun. Go to Full Review

Like most relationship films it has a tendency to self-indulgence. Prime is less about relationships than it is about life lessons - a funny, bittersweet one; but that is unfortunately what a lot of relationships turn out to be. Go to Full Review

"Prime" is an above average romantic comedy that still doesn't quite make the grade. Go to Full Review

Finn R Dec 30, 2017 Dumb movie with one of the best actresses of all time uma Thurman.
George L May 29, 2017 When we think we have seen everything to be ready for something new and different we see our shot with someone seeking the same thing. When what we see we know others dont have much experience and others can't relive that experience once again when we are in different lives to see we are right for eachother when we each want the same thing. When we come all this way in experiencing this really embracing relationship but know it can't last when we can't see someone committing to something they will regret or be constrained to live with when they are not ready and still have plenty to see. When we come all this way to see that others are not ready for us getting our life back on track when there's plenty to experience before we are happy with our life before we take the next step in life. When we see life is full of experiences highs and lows that are learning experiences we need to see before we are comfortably happy to take the next step with eachother. When we see we can't speed up life and accept all what we see we must do in taking steps as we age, when experiences involves more than us but our family and friends to experience and go through life with us to know when the time is right. When we see someone gave us a life changing experience that we see we are in good places now when we see ourselves taking the next step of our lives more happily. See more
Leia R Mar 11, 2008 It has many good ideas, but it doesn't fully commit to any of them. Consequently, it underserves both its premise and Meryl Streep. See more
Ron W Jan 19, 2008 Quite a nice story, though ending was a bit icky and not exactly a feel good romance. Maybe quite realistic for a relationship between an older woman and younger man. See more
Finn S Apr 26, 2007 I was a bit dissappointed in the way that they advertised this film. If you think it's going to be a funny film about hearing things she doesn't want to hear about her sons relationship with her patient, you're wrong. This is only a very small pert of the movie. I think that the main theme of the movie is that: sometimes you need more in common than love to have a relationship. Bryan Greenberg is the best in this movie. See more
