A mysterious albino teenager, Jeremy "Powder" Reed (Sean Patrick Flanery), is rescued from the basement in which he's lived since birth. But the extremely intelligent Reed is not welcomed into the community. Students at his school fear the outsider because of his bizarre ability to harness extrasensory perception and heal the sick. His relationship with a fellow student, Lindsey (Missy Crider), doesn't help matters either, despite the help of two teachers (Jeff Goldblum, Mary Steenburgen).

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Powder has some interesting and potentially affecting ideas, but they're ultimately dust in the wind of a drama that strains far too obviously for uplift.

Performed to the hilt by Flanery and filmed with conviction by Victor Salva, the movie is finally too solemn to survive its pushy musical strings. Go to Full Review

Powder has all of the elements of a successful fantasy, and none of the insights. It's a movie where intriguing ideas lie there on the screen, jumbled and unrealized. Go to Full Review

Jun 22, 2018 Do NOT understand the negative reviews. The fact that he is pure white and no hair, AND possesses nothing but compassion, even for his nemesis, has an understanding of all living things that he can actually feel (empath), has sensitivity to light and is amazingly tuned in to others (empath, autistic), and is treated as an alien would most likely be treated, so decides to go "home" had huge impact on me emotionally. I liked the scene to scene flow of this film, to show how this man, who could bring nothing but good to everyone, was treated in such a way that he didnt destroy, he simply left. I find that to be meaningful, though incredibly sad. I cried several times in this film. I believe it deserves more understanding....just llke the character himself. Also, "strange" powers? ESP is not strange, neither is the ability to heal others, neither is having a strong presence that is high energy. See more
Theodore M Feb 6, 2018 The movie was directed by a pedophile. Disgusting.
Abraham S Aug 26, 2017 One of my all time favorite movies! Sean Patrick Flanery is incredible as Powder. It's amazing how such a young actor brought such depth, warmth and vulnerability to this role. The rest of the cast was great, but Sean Patrick's performance carried this movie from beginning to end. I couldn't take my eyes off of him. If you're one to stick up for those who are different, this movie will stick with you. See more
Hagrid S May 1, 2017 Disgusting stereotypes of albinos. Showing that we are more like frankenstein than humans. This movie is grossly offensive. Pleased o not watch this. See more
Abraham P Feb 22, 2010 Sean Patrick Flanery gives a strong performance as the sympathetic title character. A mysterious and captivating film, although I didn't care for how it ended. (First and only full viewing - 11/7/2010) See more
