An ingenious and spoofy little shocker that with knowing affection pays tribute to irresistibly schlocky vintage exploitation pix. Go to Full Review

Though it isn't even trying to scare you, this is a very nifty black-comic horror movie, one of the rare entries in the genre with some genuine wit and affection. Go to Full Review

[Popcorn] is the best spoof of its kind since Alligator. It's especially funny when it allows the audience to see sequences from the movies-within-the-movie, each of which recalls some piece of cherished junk out of the 1950's or 60's. Go to Full Review

Popcorn would be an all-timer if were just a little bit smarter, but it's still a fun way to spend 🎶 Saturday night at the movies. 🎶 Go to Full Review

Popcorn’s by no means a masterpiece—not even among its slasher kin—but it is absolutely an earnest love letter to midnight movie madness. Go to Full Review

Anakin W Jul 27, 2014 Popcorn is a movie that subverts your expectations and gives you something different than what you would expect. I knew very little about the film's plot before watching it, but judging from the title and the cover, I assumed it would be about a group of teenagers being offed one by one in a movie theater. I was sort of right, but not really. It's not a typical slasher movie, and in fact has more to do with The Phantom of the Opera than a straight up horror film. The story is about a group of film school upstarts who decide to do a horror festival at a local theater, but one of them has a dark secret from her past that is being dug up as the murders start to occur. One of the cool things about the movie, and the main thing that I like about it, are the fake movies that were shot specifically for the movie. Instead of shelling out the cash for the rights to some B movies or horror classics, they made their own. The movie is fun and mostly lighthearted, but it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense plot-wise if you stop and think about it after the fact. Regardless, it's still a pretty good crowd pleaser that's self-aware, campy, and fun. See more
Poe R Sep 20, 2009 A cheesy, low-budget but original slasher film from the early 90s. Popcorn concerns a group of film students who put on a horror film festival that features different kinds of gimmicks (3-D, flying monsters in the theatre, electric shocks in the seats, stinkvision, etc.) to accompany the films. Some of the film's real humor and charm derives from the humorous old sci-fi/horror film parodies that the audience watches. All of them parody 1950s era sci-fi/horror and are hilarious. A homage to filmmakers like William Castle, Popcorn is a fun and funny horror/comedy hybrid. See more
