One of Ash's contemporaries describes his encounter with this rainbow-hued bird as 'a priceless experience.' Two decades' worth of vanished, irretrievable pocket money would say otherwise. Go to Full Review

A rushed and narratively inert summary of some episodes from the anime that made an impression on a whole generation. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

The movie is at its best when it is using the themes of its predecessor to tell its own story rather than the moments which essentially sell fans more of the same with a fresh coat of paint. Go to Full Review

Still, there are some improvements here from the original anime. Visually, the animation is lovely to look at, with the glittering rainbow-coloured feathers of the mystical Ho-Oh character especially mesmerising. If only the story is as compelling. Go to Full Review

The Pokmon anime has hardly adhered to the rules of the original games. But Pokmon: I Choose You! goes a step further, ending with a moment so bizarre that my entire theater howled in disbelief. Go to Full Review

Leia L Apr 24, 2019 A retelling of the Pokemon anime that was released over 20 years ago. This time they've rebooted the movie franchises, so this is the first in an alternate timeline. The film borrows a lot from the initial pilot and a few of the first seasons episodes, but mixes Pokemon from all generations in it to give it a much different feel. The movie mainly follows a young 10 year old boy named Ash Ketchum (Christa Lips) who after waking up late almost doesn't receive a Pokemon from Professor Oak (James Carter Cathcart). The only remaining Pokemon left is the very rebellious Pikachu that will not go into his Pokeball. I'll stop here real quick, I'm assuming you know at least the basics here since it seems everyone knows about Pokemon, but if not here's a slight refresher. When kids in this world turn 10 they can receive a Pokemon (which are little monster's that have abilities) and travel the world battling trainers and Gym Leaders to get badges to prove that they are masters at what they do. Absolutely, ridiculous, but this franchise has been going on for 20+ years and doesn't seem to be slowing down. Anyways, back to the story. Ash eventually befriend Pikachu and after seeing the legendary Pokemon Ho-Oh decide to hunt him down for themselves. Along the way Ash meets Verity (Suzy Myers) a young Pokemon trainer who also wants to be the best and Sorrel (David Oliver Nelson) who is researching and studying Pokemon. Together the three of them run into many adventures (randomly told through some montages) and encounter some nefarious people as well along the way to finding the legendary Pokemon Ho-Oh. Ok there's a bit more to it involving a subplot with a Charmander, but either you're gonna like this movie or not. The animation is well done here and the story is super predictable. I didn't like that a lot of the montages that are shown are used a bit too much to signify that stuff happened between the moments in the movie, but they had to show the relationship of Ash and Pikachu grow I guess. Team Rocket is back here, but shouldn't be. They barely interact with Ash and are just there damn near for just nostalgic reasons. The main story is a bit too plain for my liking. Yes seeking out Ho-Oh is new (especially since the original show showed him in the first episode, but never encountered him in the movies). Overall, this is a pretty decent retelling and different vision of the Ash Ketchum saga. It does have some really cheesy moments (Pikachu talking), but if you're a fan of Pokemon then this one is at least worth a watch. Currently streaming on Netflix check it out. See more

Hermione M Mar 18, 2019 While Pokà (C)mon the Movie: I Choose You is more geared torwards the kiddos (as with all the other Pokà (C)mon films before), it provides enough nostalgia and feels for the older crowd. See more
Draco S Feb 27, 2019 Pokemon the movie: I Choose You is an interesting take on the beginnings of the TV series. Although, I did find myself not enjoying the first half of the movie due to its efforts on trying to copy the episode I Choose You as much as humanly possible, the movie became a little more structured around the 1/2-3/4 mark. After that, it became kinda weird (considering how freaking strange the ending was, considering Ash is now confirmed to be immortal and all) Anywho, I did like some aspects of this movie, but the number one problem that the writers of not only this but also Sun and Moon can't seem to get right: Ash's character. In seasons 1-20, Ash is an optimist who never gives up and always tries his best no matter what. He cares deeply about his friends and his Pokemon over winning and becoming a Pokemon master. Starting in season 21, Ash becomes a much different character. He is willing to lie to improve the outcome, something that Ash never did for the other 20 years of his 10 year-old life. And now, Ash is the entire opposite of that. He is a pessimist who gives up and only tries his hardest if it means he can prove he's the best. He cares more about winning and being a Pokemon master more than his friends and Pokemon to the point where he outright abandons them willingly. I can't understand why they added this into the final draft of the screenplay because this was never like Ash in the first place. ANYWAYS I did like the smooth and vibrant tones of the animation style, and the voice acting was pretty solid. I liked the new characters (Even though though the writers didn't just give us Brock and Misty and skipped ahead 5 gyms for sake of time and new characters.) I liked the addition of Dr. Eggman's voice actor making an appearance in the movie. The trainer battles (which there definitely could have been more of) were pretty OK, and I think that the art style used in the legendary dog trio origin scene was pretty cool to see. I think this movie has flaws, but also has a lot of things that make it good. See more
Feb 8, 2019 It was really interesting and refreshing to see this fresh on the Pokï¿ 1/2 1/2 1/2 1/2 (C)mon anime, instead of being bound by the previous years of anime history, like many of the previous movies, For Pokï¿ 1/2 1/2 1/2 1/2 (C)monï¿ 1/2 1/2 1/2 1/2(TM)s 20th anniversary, we get reintroduced to Ash and Pikachu in a way not before seen. Something many franchises refuse to do with their established characters. Some may be put off by the lack of relation to the original anime, however this is what allows it to play with the narrative in a way not seen in previous movies. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed it and am very happy to give it a 10/10 See more
George L Jan 19, 2019 It was a great take on an old theme. The only thing that caught me off guard and made me raise an eyebrow was the BIG moment near the end of the film. I won't go further than that, I know I hate spoilers. See more
