Derek Adams Time Out Jun 24, 2006
The working out of the parallels with Casablanca are masterly, and there are plenty of good sight gags and one-liners. Go to Full Review

Maybe the movie has too much coherence, and the plot is too predictable; that's a weakness of films based on well-made Broadway plays. Still, that's hardly a serious complaint about something as funny as Play It Again, Sam." Go to Full Review

This is very much one of Allen's earlier, funnier films. Go to Full Review

“I’m turning into an aspirin junkie. Next thing you know, I’ll be boiling the cotton at the top of the bottle to get the extra.” That’s one of the opening salvos in this hilarious comedy starring Woody Allen and Humphrey Bogart (well, sort of). Go to Full Review

The Allen-Keaton sparks are off the charts. There’s a reason they would go onto highly successful ‘70s collaborations...No surprise, Keaton is the heart of the pic. Her magical comedic gifts help elevate the silliest moments... Go to Full Review

Allen has the uncanny knack of magnifying our most unguarded, embarrassing, selfish and just plain silly moments into a blossoming garden of neuroses and phobias. Go to Full Review

Feb 2, 2019 The best comedy romance movie ever made!
Ron W Sep 19, 2018 Some great one liners but inconsistent quality of material drags it down.
See more
Leia S May 14, 2017 The seminal Woody Allen film, even though not directed by him, will be appreciated by the fans of Casablanca and Humphrey Bogart. Clever humour, funny situations and nice performances combining with nice cinematic background of cinema of the 40's. See more
Abraham S Apr 14, 2017 Very funny movie. I loved it and it was very relatable. It was a bit predictable and I stopped paying attention towards the end, but it was a very memorable movie. Fantastic acting, great humor, great direction. I enjoyed it See more
Anakin L Feb 14, 2017 I was only 17 when this came out. It's how I learned about Casablanca.. I'd followed Woody since What's Up Tiger Lily. There seems to be an hilarious version and a so-so version of the latter. I saw the hilarious one. Anyway, I tried to catch all his films. Sam is one of the first I saw after Lily. I'm giving it one more star than Casablanca. Linda had to go w/Dick in this one. Otherwise Allen couldn't have told her "If that plane leaves the ground, and you're not with him, you'll regret it. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow, but soon, and for the rest of your life." At this moment Allen reaches self actualization. In Casablanca, it's obvious Ilsa had a girlish crush on Lazlo, but real passion for Rick. Sam has a better ending. And it's pre-Interiors, so it's funny. See more
