For all its bloody and violent genre trappings, "Pilgrimage" is a gorgeously shot film that carefully renders the details of this fascinating historical period. Go to Full Review

It's interesting as far as it goes, but you wish it would have gone farther. Go to Full Review

What really makes Pilgrimage buzz ... is an impressively scuzzy ambience powered by repeated outbreaks of raw violence. Go to Full Review

Made with a small budget and shot in thirty days, “Pilgrimage” sleekly maneuvers through its limitations instead of succumbing to them. Go to Full Review

Ron S Apr 13, 2019 It was very different from what I expected and it's not my favourite movie but you can see they really put a lot of effort into it. All the different languages and the camera work. I really enjoyed that. Jon Bernthal and Tom Holland together was a great match! I think they both are great actors and it was fun to see their characters working together en protecting each other the way they did. I was hoping to get to know more about Jon Bernthal his character since the army seemed to know him, so I was kind of disappointed with the movie ending the way it did. It was an okay movie. For me, personally, Tom Holland an Jon Bernthal made it quite a bit better. See more
Mar 21, 2019 An underrated medieval epic that provides a thought provoking commentary on the dangers of religious fanaticism at the expense of human lives. Tom Holland and Jon Berenthal's performances captivate you from the start. Berenthal as the Mute manages to convey deep emotion without uttering a single word, and Holland brings both his youthful charm and deep sincerity to the role of Diarmuid. From the very first scene you get a sense of the characters' deep bond, which serves as the heart and soul of this story. While most everyone's main concern is possessing the relic, it is clear that the Mute's main priority is Diarmuid's safety, and Diarmuid himself comes to realize that not even the relic is worth the lives of those he cares about, particularly the Mute's, thus showcasing the true spirit of Christianity as opposed to domineering religion. In addition to a well thought out story, the Irish scenery is breathtaking, the battle scenes are brutal and epic, and Tom Holland speaks extremely convincing Gaelic. My only regret was that it didn't last longer. Nevertheless it is still worth checking out. See more
Kylo S Nov 4, 2018 How dark movie this is Soo good this is a mixture of dark storyline and horror movie its really good Tom Holland as a lead is spectacular tom Holland rules it's an 90% certified fresh See more
Hagrid P Oct 9, 2018 The ending completely tanked this movie. The "Mute" goes from being able to defeat 6-7 men at a time along with one very large brute, to getting his ass kicked at the end by a simple axe man.... makes no sense... See more
Leia M Sep 21, 2018 A group of monks in medieval Ireland guard a precious religious relic at their rural monastery. Frère Geraldus (Stanley Weber), a French Cistercian monk, arrives with a charter from Pope Innocent III, commanding the monks to undertake a pilgrimage to transport their monastery's holiest relic to Rome under Geraldus. The monks reluctantly agree, as legend tells that the relic's holy power will destroy any not pure-hearted enough to possess it. A handful of monks set out, including multilingual Brother Ciarán (John Lynch) and novice Brother Diarmuid (Tom Holland), accompanied by a mute laborer (Jon Bernthal). As the group is caught in a rainstorm, the golden reliquary is struck by lightning but shows no damage, further reinforcing the notion of its mystical power. Their faith that binds them together may ultimately lead to their destruction... "Pilgrimage" has an intriguing story in the wake of the crusades and there´s some production value. The acting and action scenes wobbles sometimes, but we get some nice landscape scenery due to the setting on Ireland. Tom Holland is doing a role far far away from Peter Parker/Spiderman, but he is not too bad as Brother Diarmuid and Jon Bernthal as The Mute is quite solid. "Pilgrimage" is ok, but nothing to write home about. See more
Abraham L May 12, 2018 I watched it because I'm in love with Tom Holland. I liked the setting. And I really liked the brutal realistic violence. But I was disappointed that it didn't go further in pointing out how stupid it is to fight over religion. So the pagans worship fairies. Is that any more dumb than Catholics praying to saints and relics? From an outside perspective, it looks like everyone's missing their marbles. See more
