Eschewing fussily prepared three-act structures and stopwatch-timed story beats, Dario Argento’s films unfold according to their own distinctive logic. Go to Full Review

Between shots of stunning mountain scenery there are paranormal breezes, unfeasibly bright night-lighting and buckets and buckets of maggots. Go to Full Review

The best acting is by an expressive, resourceful chimpanzee -- definitely the year's Best Supporting Primate. Go to Full Review

While an uneven Argento film, Phenomena still manages to provide plenty of style and deliver a worthy look at the horrors of growing up. Go to Full Review

Bizarre even for Argento, Phenomena sees the director using the kitchen sink approach to throw everything at the wall to see what sticks. Not everything does, but it all makes for a wildly entertaining ride with plot developments you'll never see coming. Go to Full Review

This movie is absolutely wild. It's like a Stefon sketch because it truly does have everything: insect attacks, a knife wielding chimp, telepathy, sleepwalking, heads through windows, a ridiculous villain monologue. So wild! Such fun! Go to Full Review

Hagrid R Apr 27, 2019 Wonderful effort from the master of Italian horror. Great story, music, suspense. A young Jennifer Connelly gives one hell of a performance in her first starring role (she first came to prominence on Once upon a time in America). An ageing Donald Pleasence is the other main character and best performer. There are plenty of parts that won't make sense, but being a horror movie one has to expect it. Plenty of gore, chills and thrills and memorable moments too. See more
Rey G Apr 3, 2019 A supreme mixture of Giallo, paranormal and horror, Phenomena once again makes use of a great soundtrack, a series of dream sequences that only Argento knows how to create, a more solid plot than usual, in its illogical logic, and a good cast of actors. I think it's among the best films ever made by Dario Argento, and that it's also among his most undervalued films. It has aged very well, in my opinion even better than Profondo Rosso, and the sleepwalking sequences are still magnetic today. Naturally the murders are a horror overdrive, and the final 15 minutes redeem the smudges that emerge here and there during the construction of the story. See more
Kylo M Oct 25, 2018 Really liked this film . Jennifer Connelly first leading role. This music was great. The dream/nightmare sequences add their own horrific content to the story. Donald Pleasance was great and so was his pet chimp. This film was wild. Connelly at age 15 did a fantastic job whose unusual power to control insects . Jennifer was asked to do some grotesque scene's ( maggots) I was impressed by the entire 116 minute version of Phenomena is often referred to as the "integral cut". I have never seen any of Dario Argento's work . Good stuff. As I am still thinking about the film Phenomena the next day. See more
George P Jul 28, 2018 Another must-see for fans of Argento!
Albus S Jun 21, 2018 I spent a good portion of the film wondering where exactly my suspension of disbelief started and ended but after the unveiling of the gorgeous and gory final act, I was sold. The practical effects are masterful. Balanced with the earnest depiction of teen drama are some genuine, beautiful, and thoughtfully executed scares. See more
Finn R Apr 24, 2018 Just god awful. It was so bad I was angry. Simply unbearable!
