Critics Consensus

Penguins of Madagascar is fast and brightly colored enough to entertain small children, but too frantically silly to offer real filmgoing fun for the whole family.

There are enough sight gags and silly jokes in Penguins of Madagascar to make children laugh. But a generation-spanning film, this one isn't.

The jokes are never-ending and multilayered, calculated so that adults do not get bored -- which is important, because they buy the tickets. It's all bolted together with precision and good humour, although not much whimsy.

Children will probably enjoy them and the animation is of a high standard. More wit and less frenetic action might have given the film more appeal to parents.

This spin off is a breezy good time chocked full of smart humor and a nicely developed story.

Penguins of Madagascar is a reasonably diverting romp featuring a few visually arresting set-pieces, including a fun scene showing the penguins aboard gondolas in Venice, but there's not really enough here to keep grown-ups fully engaged...

Good, zany fun. No lessons will be learned, no morals taught, nothing gained but a good time at the movies.

Probably one of the strongest Madagascar movies in my opinion. Our kids love it and mom/dad still laugh at the jokes. Lots of fun.

bom para crianças mas não tão bom para adultos

This movie was hilarious. There are well placed adult jokes throughout the film. The film moves fast but that's what makes the penguins so great. If you've even bothered to pay attention to any of the Madagascar movies, you'd understand the penguins antics entirely. They are slap happy and jovial. They are militaristic in a completely backwards way. The entire explanation of how they came about is adorable. The way they show the penguins stepping out of the madagascar storyline is creative as well. The only negative thing I have about this movie is the overused story about the good guys getting turned into monsters from some kind of serum. It was used in Despicable Me 2. It was used in another animated kid movie. There are serious writing issues for screenplays when it comes to the lesser movie in a franchise of movies. Good movie all around.
