Only inspires me to steer clear of both hospitals and any movie that casts Robin Williams as a lovable clown.

Like too many of Mr. Williams's recent movies, Patch Adams wastes the genius of a peerless clown.

Patch Adams does serve as a platform for Williams to do what he does best: evoke laughter and wring tears. Even when the movie flatlines, Williams keeps the beat.

Patch Adams is offensive in the way it trots out every hoary plot device, no matter how improbable, exploitative or downright moronic.

Patch Adams is a great movie that anyone can learn a simple lesson from; true happiness comes from helping others. People who gave this film a poor rating are still trying to find happiness through self indulgence. The film causes people to reflect on their lives and ask themselves "what am I doing to help people?" some people will learn from what they reflected on; that they could do better, but most people won't be able to handle it.

It has a great score and the ideas behind the real man are really fascinating. But this is a schmultzy, formulaic movie from start to finish. The screenplay is also a prime example of how its not suppose to be written. The execution is weak for its concept, the "villain" makes no sense, and it comes across as very unrealistic. Even though, this is based off of a real person. It is definitely a bad movie that I can't believe a lot of people love.
