What to Know

Critics Consensus

For better as well as worse, Passion is vintage De Palma sexploitation -- although with a storyline sillier than most, it fails to generate as much heat as his steamiest work.

'Passion' is, outside of its cinephile-pleasing gestures, a pretty bad movie. If it bore any other filmmaker's name, would we cut it the same slack? Go to Full Review

What we have here is a tale of lust, deception, manipulation and murder. Quintessential De Palma, in other words. Go to Full Review

One's ultimate reaction is likely to one of indifference, bemusement or outright disdain considering the pedigree of the filmmaker helming the project: Brian De Palma. Go to Full Review

‘…a major work by a major director who still has ideas to burn, and if you’re feeling a bit jaded about today’s cinema Brian De Palma’s slick, slightly sick Passion should stir your blood….’ Go to Full Review

Instead of a capstone to a great career, Passion is an interesting, ambitious, bracing effort that’s ultimately a failure. Go to Full Review

All the director’s themes are at play in Passion: obsession, voyeurism, eroticism, murder, and the warped mind of a killer—they’re all present. But they never come alive in the sensational way they do in his best films. Go to Full Review

See more
Theodore S Mar 22, 2019 A movie that is garbage nothing is redeemable and it is very convoluted
Harry M Oct 1, 2018 DePalma maybe modernising his own formula but doesn't entirely satisfy.
Theodore L Nov 2, 2017 I've been a defender of Brian De Palma throughout his entire career, even at his most dark points like Bonfire of the Vanities, but Passion is abysmally unacceptable. He tries to "return to form," but just ends up ruining his signature techniques and attempting to conform to modern modus operandi, ending up with a very dumb, flat, ironically passionless piece of near-shit saved by a marginally effective second half, despite still containing emotionless, horrible acting from its two, generally talented leads. Hermione R Oct 22, 2017 Starts off fine then it turns into TV movie bad. A waste.
Albus W Oct 9, 2017 Firstly, I don't see why this film should be remade in the first place. The Hollywood ending makes it even worse.
