Critics Consensus

Paranormal Activity 2 doesn't cover any new ground, but its premise is still scary -- and in some respects, it's a better film than the original.

The good ol' child-in-peril gimmick is the only new thing offered by Tod Williams' follow-up to Oren Peli's 2007 hit.

Like Oren Peli, who created the first film, director Tod Williams keeps the dialogue So-Cal dumb and colorless, which must be part of the scare plan but makes both these movies hard to sit through.

...reaffirms familiar scare tactics...taps into a certain kind of eeriness implicit in the threat to suburban domesticity, which was precisely what made "Poltergeist" so frightening back in the day.

With a barebones plot and not enough paranormal activity to keep things moving, this movie is a dull attempt to recapture the magic of the original. The characters and performances are bland, and there is an inexplicable lack of drama and urgency.

Not quite as thrilling as the debut film, but if you lower your expectations, there's still some fun to be had.

For some reason, I liked this movie more than the first 'Paranormal Activity'. It was just more interesting and I feel as if it had more action. Like the first, it's definitely laughable but brings enough scares for me.

While it's nowhere near as good as the first film, Paranormal Activity 2 was still a fun movie to watch!

Paranormal Activty 2, succeeds after the first movie. Offers the exact same as the first.

This one I surprisingly really liked. This film I thought had very good editing and had some of the better scares out of the films in this franchise.I saw (which is only the first two, lol).

A guilty pleasure of mine. I think this is the best film of the series.

Plot-wise, nothing too special, but an exceptional part of the series that continues to remain entertaining, unpredictable, and of course jumpy.
