Chief fault is that the picture over-emphasizes the single hanging incident of the novel, and there's not enough other action. Go to Full Review

It rejects the orthodoxy of the time with a powerful social metaphor about human morality in the most bittersweet times, presented in a far west where the barrier between heroes and villains becomes blurred. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Ron S Mar 31, 2019 The ox-bow incident is a western film directed by William A. Wellman. The film stars Henry Fonda as Gil Carter and Harry Morgan as Art Croft. The film has exemplary acting from the main cast all the way to the secondary cast. In my opinion the best actor was Dana Andrews as Donald Martin I felt that he gave a really convincing portrayal and portrayed the emotion of the character extremely well. The characters were good and portrayed really well the only problem was that they werent the most memorable characters. The cinematography was steady and fit the film very well helping with the atmosphere. The western setting in my opinion really helps with the atmosphere of the film by giving it a rustic and gritty feel to it. The film also has some realistic props and some very good set design. One scene in particular was a scene where the posse were trying to make the three other men talk. The costume design fits really well and even helps to put you into the scene. The practical effects were done very well especially for the time. One practical effect though dated I personally very much liked which was an effect that speeds up the footage to make the horses seem like they were moving faster. Though there wasnt much the action in the film was done very well especially for the time. The film actually has some very good and emotional dialogue that flows really well throughout the film. The editing was steady though now and again you could see the jump cuts. The film does have some music though theres not much it still helps set the tone of the scene. The story is written well and also very enjoyable to watch fold out. The film also has some comedy though little still gives me a chuckle now and again. The film has some really good atmosphere that sets the scene extremely well especially the ending. The film is also quiet emotional though only toward the end. The film is also really enjoyable to watch and never had me bored once. The film also has a really good ending that makes you feel for the characters. Over all I give it a 8/10 - worth paying for two tickets See more
Jan 26, 2019 The best, GREATEST Western movie ever made!
Harry S Jul 15, 2018 A simple yet thought-provoking story about revenge, law, justice and conscience.
Hagrid L May 5, 2018 This film goes into the dangers of mob mentality, majority vote, lynching, and revenge en lieu of true justice. Morality can't be subjective, because then it no longer is moral in the first place. Great little film with a really storied cast too. See more
Kylo S May 4, 2018 The film indeed looks like an 'incident' with a very short runtime, and yet it utilizes it to the fullest developing almost every character it has and it is a movie of about twenty different characters in sum. This feat not every 3-hour long movie can achieve having couple of characters in its plot. The film itself explores a very serious theme of 'every man has a right to a fair trial'. The ending is a bit didactic with a Jesus-like showcasing of the main victim of the movie, Martin, but still the movie holds pretty strong, especially considering the time of its creation when these subjects were of utmost importance. The movie is pretty verbose as to my liking but it is mostly a cracking and wise kind of dialogue. See more
Rey S Jul 25, 2017 Precursor to 12 Angry Men. Bleak and impactful.
