This kind of film shouldn't have been over an hour and a half, and even at that it is kind of flat.

With a clenched fist and a tongue in its cheek, White and company are here to emulate and embellish the best and worst qualities of westerns by making a cool one of their own.

If Black Dynamite felt like it rose from the best days of Mel Brooks and ZAZ then this effort feels like a dead zone trapped between the later Leslie Nielsen films and the godawful Friedberg/Seltzer comedies with no sense of what goes into a satire.

White has offered a jumbled array of all-too-well-trod tropes and stereotypes that, all in all, can’t seem to hit the mark in terms of finding the sweet spot of being “so bad it’s good.”

There is plenty of apparent, visible fat to trim here that would allow for the more intriguing and actual funny parts to shine more, including Michael Jai White’s physical performance, who generally always delivers on the action front

…Michael Jai White does for the Western what his Black Dynamite did for 70’s blacksploitation; an outrageous parody that offers genuine wit, surprising depth, and plenty of affection for the action/comedy genre itself…

Following up on the success of Black Dynamite, White steps into the Wild West, in a combo of a western and blaxploitation, with a bit of gunslinging, and plenty of laughs in his exciting new hit Outlaw Johnny Black.
