Leone's newest effort, Once Upon a Time in the West, with a major cast and a lot of big studio money behind it, proves that he is simply a serious bore. Go to Full Review

Moments of intense realism flow into passages of operatic extravagance; lowbrow burlesque exists side by side with the expression of the most refined shades of feeling. Go to Full Review

Sergio Leone’s 1968 spaghetti western might be set in the 19th century, but it captured the violence of the ’60s, yet the grandly cinematic film that still somehow embraces humanity. Go to Full Review

The epic spaghetti Western features an excellent score from Ennio Morricone, sweeping cinematography, and a gritty cast with rugged features that are great for Leone’s close-up and long takes. Go to Full Review

Draco R Mar 9, 2019 ok after the good, bad, and ugly my second favourite western...wait i forgot about about Outlaw Josie Wales third best then,,, the way great westerns should be made....... See more
Draco W Feb 27, 2019 A towering achievement in the Western genre, the Spaghetti Western genre, and the art of film. This is the epic film that captures America in mural form. From the railroads to the personal revenge stories it encompasses a canvas which tells large and small stories brilliantly at once. See more
George S Feb 14, 2019 I love the slow pace punctuated by bursts of violence. The conclusion is one of the most satisfying in movie history, and makes the preceding 2 1/2 hours worth it. (Upon multiple viewings, I've determined there isn't a wasted scene in this movie, despite its length.) My only criticism is the plot involving a railroad baron intimidating the people occupying the land on his route is about as cliched a Western plot as they come. The subplots ultimately carry the day. The Morricone soundtrack is also haunting and spectacular. It is hard to think of any Leone movie without also thinking of the Morricone soundtrack. I also want to protest RottenTomatoes' Tomatometer. Roger Ebert's review, the only one negatively impacting the score, was really a lukewarm review, not a negative one. Ebert later referred to Once Upon a Time in the West as a "masterpiece" in his second review of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly--which also might shed light on why he didn't recognize how good this movie was in 1968. Theodore R Feb 11, 2019 Once upon a time in the west is a Sergio Leon western film. Great acting from the expressions to the Dialogue delivery. Really good characters especially Harmonica. Good story that is intreating. Great sound track by Ennio Morricone like his work in the Speghetti western trilogy but even better in my opinion. Great style with the setting to the way everything plans out. Very good cinematography with some great shots. Great action that is suspenseful and amazing to watch. The action is also filmed and directed amazingly especially for 1968. Great costume design with the heros to the villains. Great set design and props I especially like the harmonica. Over all this Is an epic western and even an epic movie. Over all I give it a 9/10 - so close See more
Jan 26, 2019 The best movie character ever portrayed: Henry Fonda as Frank! And the best movie score ever composed!
Harry M Dec 13, 2018 This movie had potential but it was overdone. Most scenes dragged on and had nothing to do with the movie. Also the action sequences were very boring even by 1960 standards. The set pieces, location, and costumes were awesome but it wasn't enough to save this stinker of a film. See more
