Sarnet elevates his Rabelaisian folktale into a tragedy illustrated by haunting, metaphorical imagery. Go to Full Review

November is one of those films you can enjoy staring at from a perspective of visual-arts appreciation, even if the story gets thin (and it definitely does). Go to Full Review
Sheri Linden Los Angeles Times Mar 1, 2018
Sarnet's earthbound fairy tale occupies a dreamscape somewhere between the teeming canvases of Brueghel and the existential agonies of Bela Tarr's films. And it's funny, with a sly salaciousness all its own. Go to Full Review

It displays a certain formal beauty through its monochromatic atmospheres; however, it is a piece of folk-horror fantasy that lacks the narrative pulse needed to sustain the themes about impossible love and social class. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

The experimental foreign film brims with allegory and is strikingly shot. However, the film’s compelling qualities never seem to match its obscene effort towards the art. Go to Full Review

Theodore W Oct 19, 2018 I have almost no idea what I just witnessed. That may be due in large part to the fact that I'm not up to speed on Estonian folktales nor their theology. Theres a central story involving a love triangle where everyone wants someone else other than the person who loves them. Mixed in with that are stories of folktales involving demons, the devil, the plague and kraats. It gets pretty complicated as all the different folktales play out at the same time. Regardless it was shot in a beautiful black & white palate that had stunning visuals. So if you don't understand it, you might still enjoy the trip. See more
Poe M Oct 2, 2018 Estonian film, written and directed by Rainer Sarnet, is beautifully shot in black and white. However, the surrealism and bizarre symbolism here was way beyond anything that would make it enjoyable for me to view. Quite happy when it was over. See more
Aug 8, 2018 Wonderful movie. Magic. Mud. Love. Blood. What else is there?
Theodore P Jul 27, 2018 Funny and visually shocking. Nothing like what I imagined t would be.
George M Jun 4, 2018 This is a film that enchants and bewitches-all the while taking you on a Midnight Cinema trip full of allegories of Love and Soul, creatures that amaze, and Surrounding you in Black & White! A Really Great film that I can not possibly describe in detail-just Go!!! See more
George M Feb 22, 2018 Beautiful, yet a complete bore. I appreciate the effort, but it just didn't work for me. Perhaps if you Puff the magic dragon you'll get into this a bit more. Final Score: 5.1/10 See more
