Sergeant King (Myron McCormick) thinks backwoods hillbilly-turned-new recruit Will Stockdale (Andy Griffith) might be the dumbest private ever to join the Air Force. When King puts him permanently in charge of the latrines, Stockdale thinks it's a promotion. Somehow, all King's attempts to make Stockdale look foolish backfire, and one of them even finds the sergeant demoted to private by his superiors. Stockdale, meanwhile, squeaks through training, and soon begins wreaking havoc in the skies.

Mr. Griffith made his name in this role and after watching him for five minutes it is easy to see why. Go to Full Review

Feb 2, 2019 The best comedy movie ever made!
Luke R Dec 21, 2018 Andy Griffith made a career playing country guys who, even if ignorant, always got over on smart-ass city slicker types and it sort of began with this Army tale of a good hearted if dim oaf who befuddles career soldiers. Nick Adams is good as his little buddy with big Army dreams. Myron McCormick maintains exasperation solidly fo the length of the piece. See more
Sep 24, 2017 Hilarious with shades of Gomer Pyle. Andy Griffith is terrific!
