Around the scenic splendor of Niagara Falls, Charles Brackett has produced and co-scripted a gripping murder melodrama that is loaded with sex and suspense. Go to Full Review

Niagara is a morbid, cliched expedition into lust and murder. The atmosphere throughout is strained and taxes the nerves with a feeling of impending disaster. Go to Full Review

Obviously ignoring the idea that there are Seven Wonders of the World, Twentieth Century-Fox has discovered two more and enhanced them with Technicolor in "Niagara." Go to Full Review

It is quite possible that Hathaway originally took this rather conventional script seriously, because he hoped he could renew interest in it through his employment of the mise-en-scene. Go to Full Review

As a film noir piece, Hathaway directs it with the force of a torrent to narrate its melodrama about jealousy, lust and murder, with beautiful landscapes and without losing that touch of tension. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Technicolor is stunning, so as the set design. Rose's prolonged, almost silent murder scene is as good as it gets and puts most stylish giallos to shame. Go to Full Review

Theodore W Oct 13, 2018 Lightweight but entertaining A honeymooning couple, Polly and Ray Cutler, check in at a holiday resort overlooking Niagara Falls. Their neighbours are George and Rose Loomis. He's much older than her and seems to be a bit unstable. She's stunningly beautiful and appears to be having an affair. Then George Loomis is found dead, drowned, and things start to get complicated. A murder drama with Hitchcockian tones but not quite the intensity or plot development. Quite intriguing and entertaining, with a nail-biting final few scenes. However, the plot isn't always watertight and can feel contrived at times. Probably the most memorable thing about the movie is Marilyn Monroe's performance as Rose Loomis. She is perfectly cast and absolutely sizzles as the femme fatale. Good work too from Joseph Cotton as George Loomis and Jean Peters as Polly Cutler. The location is a feature too, with director Henry Hathaway using every chance to show the grandeur and beauty of Niagara Falls. It is also a key factor in the final few scenes. See more
Finn R Aug 28, 2017 Niagara is an amazing film. It is about two couples who are visiting Niagara Falls. Marilyn Monroe and Joseph Cotton give fantastic performances. The script is well written. Henry Hathaway did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of the drama and mystery. Niagara is a must see. See more
Anakin R Aug 6, 2017 A weak plot scuttled this potentially good film. The motivations were simple enough, but that didn't really make it especially entertaining. Monroe was good, while Cotten seemed out of sorts. The other couple distracted. See more
Luke R Aug 1, 2017 It seems odd to cast MM as a femme fatale, but I think it works as comediennes generally make the best criminals. A shame that Cotten's character wasn't more fully developed in the first half hour. The film seems to not properly start until the young newlyweds (Peters & Adams) arrive. Though well done technically, perhaps this film could have been better had it been a proper Film Noir and left the newlyweds as secondary characters. See more
Rey S Aug 1, 2017 Good film noir . Monroe is prettey good in this film . She shows that she could act . The real star is Jean Peters . Green-eyed beauty Jean Elizabeth Peters flashed across the screen as a bright star during her relatively brief tenure in Hollywood. After just seven years under contract to 20th Century-Fox (1947-54), she joined in the reclusive lifestyle of her eccentric billionaire husband, Howard Hughes, and all but vanished from public view. Hermione M Jun 11, 2017 Great flick! Vaguely remember my mother dragging me so she could see this in theaters way back then. I was too young to understand. Watched it again on tv recently 2017. 1st time I knew much about JEAN PETERS, tho i have heard her name much, and she is HOT. The movie is gorgeous in TECHNICOLOR. And is like a tour guide of early 50s NIAGARA FALLS! See more
