Critics Consensus

Numerous plot holes and poorly motivated characters prevent Next from being the thought-provoking sci-fi flick it could've been.

Theodore W Mar 24, 2019 Next is a lot like the Disney Channel sitcom That's So Raven because Raven Symone and Nicolas Cage can both see into the future but Next is the science fiction version of That's So Raven. Next has an interesting premise and most of the acting is not great but Nicolas Cage brings intensity and charisma that makes it interesting enough to keep you entertained. I enjoyed Jessica Biel's performance because she is trying with a script that is only bland at best. See more
Hermione G Mar 3, 2019 Despite Nic Cage and Julianne Moore's ham acting, this movie is just for some reason very charming and entertaining. I think it's probably just because I'm a sucker for sci-fi, even this kind of clairvoyant sci-fi. The idea that you can look into the future in minute detail is really interesting and fun to watch. I'm not a fan of how Moore's character is so ends justify the means when it comes to saving lives, and I think that there is a problem with this kind of thinking (when it happens int he real world). Han S Jan 1, 2019 The only good Nicolas Cage movie
Leia P May 15, 2018 suspenseful and entertaining movie with a cool premise. some cool scenes and uses of the premise. may not hold up to scrutiny but an overall enjoyable experience. (about 3 viewings) See more
Finn S Mar 20, 2018 An excellent movie that makes you think hard, and end with excited frustration. Trippy. Couple sensuous scenes.
Luke R Feb 13, 2018 Have to wonder if this Phillip K Dick adaptation might have done better with different choices as actors. I personally liked it, and kind of hoped there would be a sequel. See more
