Never Sleep Again, though both funny and frightening, is ultimately a touching journey through the Elm Street mythology. Go to Full Review

For a four-hour film, it sure does fly by, and you certainly won't be snoozing during it. Go to Full Review

Never Sleep Again won't be winning any awards as the kind of documentary that changes and rearranges the genre. Instead, it is a wildly informative summary of a seminal horror icon - and the people who populated his dark, disturbing dreamscapes. Go to Full Review

Albus L Sep 4, 2018 Three years since horror legend, Wes Craven passed. He made a massive impact on the horror genre and one of the all time greats. The terror will live on forever. 'Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy' is a fascinating documentary on the Elm Street movies. Don't let the four hour run time put you off, as it's an interesting watch. While the interviews themselves are a bit over the top, like the actors and directors think their made/starred in high art movies. Although you can tell a lot of love and care went into these, even the terrible ones. Also, it's funny hearing Renny Harlin, director of 'A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master', say every decision he made was "pure genius" while showing the most absurd shots clips from the film. Kylo M Feb 3, 2018 Superb documentary on the "Nightmare on Elm Street" franchise, covering every movie (except the remake, which is a good thing) and even the TV series. The filmmakers do a great job getting as many of the actors & crew who involved, who are as candid as possible. Wes Craven is especially great, explaining where he got the idea and his views on the other movies that didn't involve him (let's say he's not a fan of a few of them). You can tell the makers are fans of the series, but honest about it's faults as well (as shown in the commentary track), and nevertheless give a great 'warts & all' look at one of the great horror franchises of all time. The one caveat is that at nearly 4 hours, still is not a documentary for someone new to the series. However, if you are a fan, this is a must watch, as it tells you everything you wanted to know (and not know) about this classic franchise. See more
Hermione W Oct 2, 2017 Definitive, exhaustive, comprehensive & super informative 4 HOUR LONG documentary on the entire Nightmare on Elm Street series. The buck stops here. Fantastic work. See more
Kylo W Jul 3, 2017 A group of Californian filmmakers describe their efforts in making A Nightmare on Elm Street - a film with an excellent title and memorable images but little lasting value - cinematographer Jacque Haitkin is the most honest, explaining how cheesy, fake and effects-driven the production was, other main players such as Robert Englund seem intent on forever selling the brand via hyperbole and comparisons to far better cinema. In this doco, filmmakers repeatedly describe abject terror and sleepless nights associated with the script and concept, but in reality the film series became intentionally un-scary, as to not hurt it's investment chances. Luke G Feb 3, 2017 Consistently intriguing and edge-of-seat entertainment.
Ron W Jun 19, 2014 This was the cap on a recent Freddy Krueger marathon, and even though I just finished watching them all, this talking-head / film-history doc's love and comprehension makes me wanna dive right back in. Beautifully breaking down every single Nightmare movie, and holding no detail or story or opinion back, it's a perfect companion for any franchise fan, and even a solid intro into the world. Far and away my favorite "making-of" documentary ever. See more
