Abraham S Apr 11, 2019 After a three hour drive my friend and I arrived at this very high class mall in Frontenac, MO. Inside of this mall, there was 6 screen theater containing an film lovers dream. (playing Never Look Away, Cold War, Stan & Ollie, etc.) So we got our tickets, went to our seats and thus began a three hour cinematic journey. This film proved to me all the things right with film! It was smart, well written, beautifully acted, well developed characters, etc. There were a few moments where I thought it was nearly over to then find out that there was still an hour or more to go. However the film kept sucking me back in. I think that Shoplifters should win, hands down. This would be a close second for me. However we all know there will only be one winner... Anyway, this film shows how strong foreign film can be! If you get the chance to see it, I can't recommend it enough. (make sure you don't have to go to the bathroom, and your chair is comfortable lol) See more

Finn S Apr 4, 2019 Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles (a three-hour runtime and a very slow pace), Never Look Away is strangely involving almost in its entirety and often even captivating. Thanks to a beautiful score, great performances and an effective meditative feel to it, it's a very moving, strong drama with a striking third act that was all the more powerful because of the very long, but necessary and so well developed set-up. Rey W Mar 27, 2019 The early scene with the aunt and the buses-- the sound and the swirling camera-- awakened my nervous system and I realized I was in the presence of masterful filmmaking, which wasn't surprising from Donnersmark, who'd made THE LIVES OF OTHERS. When the film ended, more than 3 hours later, I was still in its thrall. The plot isn't the point. Response to the pageant before you-- real or cinematic-- is the point. See more

Albus L Mar 26, 2019 A fantastic European epic of love, history, and art. This film traces the career and personal life of a German painter who comes of age during the Nazi era, likes and thrives under the Communist East German government, then heads to West Germany where his painting career achieves a philosophical breakthrough when he looks back over his life and incorporates it all into his imagery. I loved the music and thought it suited the almost Wagnerian epic tone of the film most fittingly indeed. See more

Anakin P Mar 17, 2019 This movie has a lot of interesting material in it, but it was very, very, very long. It was also very predictable. It could have been a great movie if it had been 1.5 hours or 2 hours long. See more
