What to Know

Critics Consensus

Natural Born Killers explodes off the screen with style, but its satire is too blunt to offer any fresh insight into celebrity or crime -- pummeling the audience with depravity until the effect becomes deadening.

Nigel Andrews Financial Times Feb 13, 2024
Oliver Stone's Natural Born Killers is a passionately mad, frequently bad, passably interesting, probably unmissable movie. Go to Full Review
Geoff Brown The Times (UK) Feb 12, 2024
In Stone's last virtuoso display piece, JFK, the technical fireworks served a firm dramatic purpose. Here they get horribly out of hand. The flimsy, derivative storyline becomes almost obliterated. Go to Full Review
Alexander Walker London Evening Standard Jan 17, 2024
Stone's talent works well on the eye, seldom on the brain. There's no coherent argument to follow in his film; nothing lasts long lest viewers' attention span parts company with the excitement under the strain of having to follow a thesis. Go to Full Review
John Powers Vogue Feb 13, 2024
A big, dazzling, monstrously violent comedy that is probably the most extreme movie ever made in Hollywood. Psychedelic and assaultive, it's like a fever dream snatched from the skull of Charles Manson. Go to Full Review
Philip French Observer (UK) Feb 12, 2024
The intent is manifestly satirical, though the result is lumbering and mirthless. Go to Full Review

It's Stone's sordid but well-executed action pic message film about how an ill-informed society glorifies repulsive violent figures and makes them heroes. Go to Full Review

Abraham W Apr 17, 2019 Brilliant movie, that doesn't hold up QUITE as well as it might've. The Tomatometer is about half what it should be.
Ron R Mar 18, 2019 Controversial, you bet. Divisive, No. This was absolute trash. While I can see myself liking the concept, the execution absolutely ruins it. The directing was terrible, the characters are horribly written, and its all style with no substance. An absolute trainwreck that would've been worse if the actors decided not care about the story that is seemingly on life support. See more
Han L Feb 5, 2019 There's a reason why Quentin Tarantino himself hates this movie. Clearly, this is an idea that only he understood and was capable of bringing to life. The Oliver Stone version that we ended up getting is so smarmily obtuse, so philosophically ill-conceived, so baselessly sadistic, and so intellectually backwards that it brought my blood, bile, and piss to a virtual boil. This is smirkingly uneducated and abject schlock, masquerading under the age-old, paper thin guise that we've come to know as the pre-2010's version of "it was just a prank, bro" - satire. Dear God, what an absolute cop out. Notwithstanding the fact that this movie is almost impossible to look at, it's ugly in nearly every other way, ultimately going on to inspire the kinds of acts of violence it was so purportedly dead-set on critiquing. Fuck this movie. Fuck it and the nuance-lacking, childishly nihilistic, insultingly high horse that it glided in on in the ass. See more
Feb 2, 2019 The best thrilling movie ever made!
Rey P Oct 26, 2018 I thought this was an annoying 90s dirt bag movie with no appeal. I think Juliette Lewis is annoying as hell.
Rey W Mar 15, 2018 Too simplistic, superficial and utterly frustrating. Probably one of the worst social satires ever made.
