Nashville is the damnedest thing you ever saw since M-A-S-H was the damnedest thing you ever saw. Altman comes the closest he has ever come to challenging his older masterpiece. Go to Full Review
Judith Crist New York Magazine/Vulture Feb 27, 2025
This is the deep probe into the American malaise, the film that should be required viewing before we consider "celebration" of a bicentennial. Almost incidentally, it is one of the great American movies. Go to Full Review
Bob Lundegaard Minneapolis Star Tribune Feb 27, 2025
There is almost no plot, as such, but Altman's command is so sure that the two-and-a-half hours race by. And more than any recent film, this one repays a second visit, so subtly and carefully has Altman constructed his multiple plots. Go to Full Review
Steve Hogner Austin American-Statesman Mar 5, 2026
It is to American film what William Faulkner's "The Sound and the Fury" is to American literature -- an epic definitive statement of the natural undercurrents shaping this nation. Go to Full Review

Nobody need bother making a movie to mark the bicentennial of American independence. Robert Altman has already done so with Nashville... It will probably come to be accepted as the definitive American movie of all time. Go to Full Review
Mary MacGoris Irish Independent Mar 5, 2026
We've had all the phoniness of American elections before, better done, and if we don't know all about the hollow glamour of stardom, achieved or aspiring, it's not for want of telling. Go to Full Review

Jan 26, 2019 The best, GREATEST movie ever made! With the best movie song ever sung: I'm Easy!
Theodore W Oct 1, 2018 An absolutely horrible film. Not funny. Not clever. Just a bunch of vignettes that seemingly are supposed to lead to the surprising finish. You're actually hoping it will end, any way you can get it. I am amazed at the ratings I see here, frankly. See more
Theodore G Jul 2, 2017 Nashville is the undisputed best of films about the search for the American Dream, with great laughs and poignance, and craftsmanship that is unmatched even with Altman's other work. See more
Albus M Jul 2, 2017 Brilliant, meandering story about a time and place and people with real humanity. Great songs and something you could watch over and over again and always find something new. See more
Han G Mar 24, 2017 What a spectacle and epic movie. Following the lives of all these different characters was so interesting and gravitating to look at. I couldn't help but pay attention the whole time to see what would happen next. Again Robert Altman doesn't disappoint. And with an awesome soundtrack and setting in Nashville, the film really does come alive and you feel like your a part of it all. Deserves a re-watch. See more
Hagrid L Nov 3, 2012 In "Nashville" Robert Altman has made THE great American dramatic musical. Years later you'll remember large sections of it easily, and happily. See more
