A safari guide (Cornel Wilde) cautions the hunting party he is leading to respect the African natives they encounter. Instead of heeding this advice, one of the party actively insults the tribe, which captures and kills the entire group. Only the guide is spared. But he is stripped of his clothing, and given a head start before the warriors give chase. Using his knowledge of the land and resourcefulness, the guide must make his way back to the closest British fort.

There's no real ploy for audience sympathies, which is perhaps what makes The Naked Prey feel relevant and naggingly pervasive thanks to this transparency and lack of manipulation.

Some rich men are someplace in Africa hunting for Ivory. They shoot some elephants and they drink. One of the guys paid for it so he wants the trip to be excactly as he wants it to be. The guy that makes arrangements and controlls it, known as The Man, is not liking his attitude as he drinks, kills elephants without ivory for fun and disrespect the tribe they are out hunting with. As a result the tribe kills the entire gang of white men. Well, accept from The Man that are made to run out into the wild, naked and unarmed. The hunt is on. We see The Man defend himself from the guys after him. He hides, eats, run - well, he survives. He's quite good at it too. Exciting, pretty minimalistic but highly entertaining. I don't like the animal cruelty and some racial stuff, but the film is something of it's own and a very fresh film. Made over 50 years ago and it couldnt been done better today. Great film. 8 out of 10 naked runners.

enjoyed as a child then rewatched today. I now censorship was bad in the 60s but he went from cream underwear to a black furry pouch, which apparently was a spate that the first guy he killed carried about with him.... if you can switch off from stuff like this (I struggled to) you'll enjoy.

No middle-aged, scion-of-Western-civilization, white guy is going to outrun, outsmart, and outlast a war party of Zulu tribesmen in a footrace across the Serengeti at the drop of a hat, which is exactly what this film portrays.The Naked Prey is not a horrible film, in fact it's downright entertaining, but let's be absolutely truthful about calling it for what it is. It is 96 minutes of pure, unadulterated machismo fantasy ... but we are talking about movies. Fantasy. Entertainment. And so, with that caveat in mind, let me add that this film heartily achieves just that. Hemingway would love this balls-to-the-wall adventure story.

Synopsis
