Critics Consensus

Bad acting, poor CGI and clunky script mean this sci-fi thriller is lacking in all departments including the thrills.

It's photogenic people killing mutants before green screens; what more could you ask? Go to Full Review

Combine some of the most misguided design decisions in years with dialogue, plot, and characters out of an Uwe Boll film and you have a definite misfire Go to Full Review

The result is impressively bad and should probably go on your “worst movies ever” list if you have one, and if you don’t, make one and put this stinker at the top. Go to Full Review

Definitely isn't setting any precedence, but it's serviceable and fun. Go to Full Review

It's a murky film, in terms of both plot (overcooked) and visuals (underlit), proudly artificial and yet burdened with a severe pulp deficiency. Go to Full Review

Jan 27, 2019 A very trivial movie, not worth seeing. And it has absolutely nothing to do with the original ambientation of 'Mutant Chronicles'. A true disappointment to fan of the franchise and a mediocre movie for science fiction aficionados. I gets 4 out of 10. See more
Oct 31, 2018 I may be the only one, I may be blinded by the fact that i zlove Ron Pearlman. This is all a bad acting movie, the CGI - what CGI one might ask, the script is beyond poor, if you accept that the film is bad, you might just find yourdelf enjoying it. See more
George R Oct 11, 2018 The movie has a lot of flaws and a not very consistent story. However for some reason I still like this movie
Hagrid R Mar 31, 2018 So very disappointing adaptation of a tabletop rpg even the action scenes are lackluster and meh
Ron W Mar 13, 2018 As a fan of the Mutant Chronicles setting and games, I ask you to please try not to judge them based on this film. There are some films that are terrible as adaptations of their source material, but are still good films. Robocop 2014 is a good action film, but a lousy RoboCop film. Super Mario Brothers isn't a SMB film, and isn't good, but if you ignore the odd Mario bits, and treat it as its own weird screwball slapstick trashy comedy it's surprisingly fun. Mutant Chronicles, on the other hand, fails on basically every level. As an adaptation of the original setting... It isn't. There's basically nothing in common here beyond a vague dieselpunkish vibe and the presence of demonic forces. Only the presence, The monsters in the film are basically just zombies with a big claw, bearing no resemblance to the Dark Legion. Ignoring the games and looking at the film as its own thing: It's even worse. The plot is nonsensical, the characters bland, the effects are all over the place, ranging from flawless to laughable, the acting is terrible (Both Malkovich and Perlman deliver their worst performances I've seen). The faint praise: The action scenes aren't awful, just forgettable. And while the monster design is pathetic, the makeup and effects teams do a pretty good job with it. Avoid at all costs. This is both a bad adaptation and a bad film, on the same level as Catwoman, Fant4stic and The Last Airbender. See more
