Doug Kinney (Michael Keaton) is a busy construction worker struggling to make time for his family and his demanding job. When a scientist offers to clone him, Doug accepts and spawns a slightly more macho version of himself. He decides to create a second clone, but this sparks a series of duplications when his second clone begins to feel overwhelmed. Doug attempts to manage his many clones while trying to keep his wife (Andie MacDowell) in the dark.

Critics Consensus

This high-concept experiment only proves that a comedy actually can have too much Michael Keaton.

Multiplicity is more concerned with its special effects of multiple characters than any satisfying conclusion to its provocative premise.

There aren't many actors who can portray four personalities this well, and I can only wish comedies made me laugh today as much as this one did.

Before The 6th Day with Arnold, was this movie about cloning but instead of action, it's comedy. Michael Keaton is hilarious playing the multiple versions of himself(including the "short bus" one) but I thought there would be more than 3 clones according to the cover. Also raised some questions like why would the clones be so self subservient to the original? They almost are slaves to the original in a way. Probably best not to think about it, along with why the cloning scientist would go along with the whole thing in the first place. Anyways, it's still an enjoyable movie if you don't think too much about the how's and why's.

Funny! Michael Keaton plays 4 different personalities trying to keep it all together. Andie MacDowell plays his wife and I wonder how she didn't break out laughing while filming (maybe she did!). I find myself quoting lines randomly and hearing other lines back to me. It has become a favorite movie I can watch over and over.

One of the best comedies of the last 30 years. Brilliant acting by Michael Keaton as four different characters.

I have laughed so hard at this movie. It is adorable!! Michael Keaton does a fantastic job in as himself and clones. What a shame that no one really got that this is a hilarious movie.
