Apr 23, 2019 i did not liked this movie not my tip
Luke L Mar 28, 2019 I liked this film, it was enjoyable and the two kids form a memorable pair, but it seemed a bit far out by the time Matthew M. was shooting up the house with a shotgun. Just seemed to be packing too much into one film (i.e. criminal fugitive vs. love story vs. mobster/gangster hero film). See more
Han S Mar 12, 2019 Mud is hard to categorize as a movie. It's not exactly a family movie, and not exactly an adventure movie, but somewhere in between. The story is rather predictable as it unfolds, but easily ignored because McConaughey is in his element and engaging as usual. See more
George S Jan 4, 2019 Mud is dragged out way to long. Tye Sheridan plays Ellis brilliantly. This film is nothing we haven't seen before.
Albus M Oct 21, 2018 At times, Mud, set in the deep southern land of Arkansas, looks about as dirty it's title suggests. Take Matthew McConaughey's character (whose name, incidentally, is Mud) for instance. An outlaw on the run, Mud has taken a small deserted island to serve as his hideaway. Trust me, he's as filthy as he's ever looked (and that's saying something). His adeptness to acting, however, is as polished as its ever been. Runner-up show stealer awards belong to the two Arkansas boys, 14 year old Ellis (Tye Sheridan) and his buddy, Neckbone (Jacob Lofland). There is much turmoil surrounding Ellis' family. All Ellis wants to do is stay as far away from home as possible. The two friends spend their days exploring every nook and cranny of the surrounding wilderness. So its only natural that they stumble upon Mud's home away from home. The island quickly reveals itself to not be any ordinary place when the boys discover a boat in a tree. Yes, in a tree. No one knows how it got there, but damned if Ellis and Neckbone aren't going to check it out. Inside they discover beanie weanies, other canned goods, and...fresh bread? Yup, that's their cue to bolt. Not before they discover Mud, though, cool as can be, doing his thing on the island. From here on, the boys learn about Mud's backstory, which is an all out white knuckle thriller in itself. Also, Muds love interest, played by an awesome Reese Witherspooon, helps pull on the audience's heart strings throughout. The music, which is very backwoods Arkansas, is also noteworthy. Director Jeff Nichols has created a thing of beauty out of a story about people as damaged, and real, as they come. See more
Albus M Oct 7, 2018 An endearing drama. Mud (2012) is one of my all time favorite films. Matthew McConaughey was on a career return to form after The Lincoln Lawyer (2011). He is heartfelt and dramatic in a very engaging way. I love the character of Mud and how is in a father figure to the main boy, Ellis, so wonderfully portrayed by a young Tye Sheridan. In essence, Mud is about fatherhood and that love that is required for successful parenting. Reese Witherspoon gives her best acting to date in Mud as Mud's girlfriend Juniper. She is really sweet, but adds a certain depth and darkness to the character that makes her fascinating. Sarah Paulson is so sweet and likable as Ellis' mother. Mud is a nice supporting role from her. Sam Shepard is excellent as Tom. His quiet seriousness is so telling as the grizzled veteran to death and fatherhood. Michael Shannon is quite funny and likable in his smaller role as Neckbone's guardian uncle. I even liked the boy Jacob Lofland as Neckbone. He is really funny with a nice sense of timing. Mud contains a wide array of great supporting roles. The atmospheric score is hypnotic whenever it chimes in, but the long panning shot cinematography with the gorgeous natural setting is Mud's real beauty. Alongside director Jeff Nichols' highly original script and story, Mud shines in even its darkest moments. Focused direction and realistic drama culminate in a very special and unique movie. Mud is dope! See more
