Longfellow Deeds is a sweet, lovable guy leading a simple but happy life in the tiny hamlet of Mandrake Falls, New Hampshire. Life is good at the small town restaurant until two corporate execs bring news that Deeds is about to be rolling in a different kind of dough. A long-lost relative has left him an inheritance of 40 billion dollars along with the largest media company in the world. It's a fish out of water, rags-to-riches story that has local tabloid reporters salivating.

Critics Consensus

This update of Capra doesn't hold a candle to the original, and even on its own merits, Mr. Deeds is still indifferently acted and stale.

Pretty awful, but teen Sandler fans may like it.

A remake so bad it will make your gums bleed. Orphanage fires are funnier.

While Mr. Deeds rates merely as a mediocrity, that’s certainly a step up from Sandler’s previous two pictures, the I-wouldn’t-wish-them-upon-my-worst-enemy pair of Big Daddy and Little Nicky.

Sandler's only saving grace with Mr. Deeds may be that the majority of his fans are too young to know of, or just don't care about, Frank Capra or movie masterpieces...

Lighthearted, fun movie! Feel like any critic review missed the whole point of this movie.

Adam Sandler has a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde persona it seems- For every click that clicks(no pun) there is a Mr. Deeds that simply doesn't work. Die-hard Sandler fans seem to appreciate their hero no matter what he's in, so it's virtually a lock that they'll like at least some of what Mr. Deeds has to offer. For the movie-going public in general, however, this is very much of a mixed bag, with enough negatives to outweigh the positives. The movie isn't horribly made or unwatchable, but it is uninspired (even considering that the underlying premise has already been brought to the screen by the master of manipulation, Frank Capra). Mr. Deeds is more mediocre than magical, and, as a result, not worth more than a wicked cursory glance. There are better comedies and dramas and dramedies out there.

Terrible movie. Just another bad Adam Sandler movie. A terrible remake of a classic 1930s movie. This movie was so BORING and barely funny. The second time I watched this, I fell asleep during the movie. I'll admit, I only laughed a few times during the movie, but that's it. The characters suck. The plot is just a badly executed rehash of the original. The story is predictable. Most of the humor is unfunny. The only funny scenes were the frost bite foot scene and the restaurant fight scene. Rating: 2.2/10

when I first saw Mr. deeds it was pretty good but it wasn't like anything perfect. The story was still okay but the humor in it was kind of weird.

It is a very heart warming movie and people just hate on Adam for no reason even though he is really funny.

While definitely not Adam Sandler's worst movie, Mr. Deeds is a flawed, albeit harmless comedy made for background noise.
