Critics Consensus

A fun '80s adventure with a slightly scary twist, The Monster Squad offers tween-friendly horror with just enough of a kick.

The story unfolds at a furious pace. This is an action-packed movie in the truest sense.

Squad's gleeful monster mash anticipates bloated CGI orgies like Van Helsing, which likely cost a hundred times as much, yet boasts a hundredth of Squad's scrappy, ramshackle charm.

Yes, the film has its campy and even downright silly moments but overall it is a fun, enjoyable movie that keeps giving with each additional viewing. Give it a go, you won it regret it. https://latetothegame.blog/2018/12/27/key-movies-of-my-life-the-monster-squad-1987/

4/5. It takes a while to get going and not all of the members of the Monster Squad are engaging, but this movie is a blast to watch, especially when you get to the 3rd act. A great watch for the Halloween season.

The conceit is ultimately as thin as the attempts at comedy, never explored or developed, but the leads buzz with enough playful energy to carry your interest through to the end-though the whole thing slips from memory as soon as the credits finish rolling, vanishing as quickly and totally as the Invisible Man.

A great idea with an awful, poorly directed execution.
