[UPDATED 2025 REVIEW] Crisp dialogue can't completely disguise the abrupt character transformations and the choppy narrative -- the result, as was usually the case, of the need to appease Will Hays and his Production Code prudes. Go to Full Review

Theodore R Dec 21, 2018 Miss Sadie Thompson is a decent film. It is about self-righteous missionary man who seeks to save the soul of a former prostitute. Rita Hayworth and Jose Ferrer give okay performances. The screenplay is a little slow in places. Curtis Bernhardt did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the drama and romance. See more
Anakin R Jan 11, 2018 "The Heat Is On" alright... ;)
Hermione P Jan 11, 2018 LOVED! Hope they don't 'remake" this as the origional is perfect!
Han W Jan 11, 2018 Rita in the twilight of her beauty, but still a troublemakrer. Some nice songs, including "The Heat is On," her last fling at a "Put the Blame on Mame" type-number. Aldo Ray! My heart be still!!! See more
Hermione M Jan 11, 2018 A forgettable film, poorly acted by all concerned with Rita Hayworth far from her screen-siren best.
Draco P Jan 11, 2018 Good film for Rita Hayworth fans, as she is particularly good in this film, as the Miss Thompson of the title, and Jose Ferrer is a nasty piece of work as a missionary with a thoroughly Old Testament (not to say mysogynistic) view of good time girls like Sadie, what ethy're worth and what they deserve. It goes into areas which Hollywood films could not address 'full on' due to the constraints of the code, doubly so in a film so outwardly sunny, but does so sufficiently for the viewer to fully understand. Interesting film. See more
